About me: I work full-time as a senior copyeditor in Boston and live in the North End. Yes, walking to work is definitely a plus. In my spare time, I paint (abstract stuff), volunteer (previously at the Pawsafe Cat Shelter in Somerville and the New England Aquarium; currently for Boston Cares), and spend a lot of time in used bookstores and at the library.
Favorite books/authors: Everything by Edward Gorey (R.I.P.) and Haruki Murakami. All horror stories and novels, especially H.P. Lovecraft, Arthur Machen, and Stephen King. and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Other than that... The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, Up Above the World, The Stories of John Cheever, The Lottery and Other Stories, Appointment in Samarra, Wasted, Drinking: A Love Story, The Buddha of Suburbia, To the Lighthouse, The Hours, Norwegian Wood, The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, The Edible Woman, The Robber Bride, Tipping the Velvet, Fingersmith, Among the Thugs.
Favorite music: Current favorites: The Telescopes and A Place to Bury Strangers. PJ Harvey's new album, "White Chalk, " is the best I've heard in at least a year. other than that, Muslimgauze, Depeche Mode, Suede, Royksopp, the Twilight Singers, Cocteau Twins, Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Diary of Dreams, VNV Nation, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Holly Golightly, The Kills, Klaus Schulze, Julee Cruise, 60s garage rock of all kinds, Can, Faust, VU, Spacemen 3, older Spiritualized, Nick Cave, Primal Scream, the Zombies' "Odyssey & Oracle, " LCD Soundsytem, M.I.A., 13th Floor Elevators, Ulrich Schnauss, Love & Rockets, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Air, Patti Smith, most shoegaze stuff I LOVE (including MBV, Ride, Slowdive, Ether Aura, Bethany Curve, Skywave, Jesus & Mary Chain, A Place to Bury Strangers, Cocteau Twins--as I mentioned before), Brian Eno, Cluster, the December Sound, madchester, the Dead Kennedys, Bikini Kill. I also love industrial/some goth/eBM stuff, as long as it's not ridiculously cheesy--Clan of Xymox, And One, Funker Vogt are all good stuff.
Favorite movies: Pretty much anything of the horror bent, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Devil's Advocate, Rushmore, Superbad, The Warriors, Dead Ringers, Sean of the Dead, Boogie Nights, Dig!, The Seventh Seal, Cries & Whispers, Lost in Translation, Summer of Sam, Secretary, Annie Hall, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The Burbs, Female Perversions, Repulsion, Office Space, Goodfellas, Audition, Eternal Sunshine, Trouble Every Day, Mulholland Dr., Bowling for Columbine, Hellraiser I & II, The Godfather, everything by David Lynch & David Cronenberg, and anything involving Al Pacino.
Favorite TV shows: Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Law and Order: SVU.
