About KarsinTheHutt

I started writing on epinions back in the Summer of 2000, when the Internet bubble was in full swing and everything digital was a hot item. Unsurprisingly, I know a lot about computers, having majored in Computer Science in college.
I still keep up with the latest developments in computers. These machines now touch almost every facet of human existence in the industrial world - they are the nervous system that connects everything, from factories to the offices of lawyers. Computers enhance the productivity of everyone beyond what anyone ever thought was possible.
I admit that the complexity of modern hardware and software systems concerns me. I like knowing how things work, and how to repair something if it breaks, but with computers, its difficult if not impossible to *really* know how everything works. The analog circuits of power supplies, PCB layouts, chipsets, memory, graphics hardware, and 100 million transistor CPUs represent perhaps hundreds of millions of man-hours of work. Software, like Windows, MacOS, and Linux, represent countless millions of more man-hours of design and implementation. The result is that even small errors can cause users immense frustration - where does one look to find the cause of a problem in such a complex system?
Computer Science & Engineering is a tedious, difficult profession, and the line engineer won't make piles of money like a doctor or attorney. Still, the satisfaction of having built something useful is hard to beat, and I may yet return to it.
