I am a such Californian that it's my dominating personality trait. I adore new experiences, I am know in nightclubs, I say "dahling" and mean it, I’m constantly frustrated by my Epicurean needs and Spartan budget and I talk funny, I was branded by a valley girl accent in my youth and can’t quite shake it.
I’d rather travel than eat. Sometimes, when the urge to visit a new place is thwarted by my time or cash flow budget, I take day trips around Los Angeles. There’s more history and culture here than anyone realizes but you have to hunt for it. You have to track it down with all the stealth and dedication of Elmer Fudd. LA’s basically a cheap tart but she’s got a wonderful mysterious past…
By the way - If you haven’t been to Europe yet, go. You can’t feel part of the human race until you’ve (literally) touched its past. Plus, the food is totally yummy.
My cat is a small annoying god who needs constant worship. His regal Siamese heritage allows him to pose provocatively on any occasion, he’s got the legs and cheek bones of a supermodel but the voice of a fishwife. He’s here now as I type, squinting up from my lap, knowing that he’s receiving proper homage.
