Hey hey...thanks for taking the time to check out my profile. Edmund (that would be me) is from San Francisco, but goes to UCLA for college. He's bored a lot of the time, so he entertains himself with music, movies, running, reading, card-playing, and all that good stuff. Sometimes I eat things while typing with one hand and then the crumbs drop into my keyboard and I can't get them out.
About my reviews
I've only been acquainted with this site for a short while, but nevertheless I've grown quite fond of it. The site is incredibly useful and comprehensive. I realize that it is the people who write great reviews that make this site so wonderful, so I figure that my way of giving back will be to write reviews of my own. My reviews are usually about music and movies, two forms of media that play a large role in our culture. Though I listen to many different genres of music, my area of expertise (relative to other genres, of course) lies in hip-hop. So those are the things I tend to write about. Also, because my time is limited, those are the types of reviews that I read most often. So please do not be offended if I don't read many of your reviews; I'm sure you're a great writer, but blenders and bath oils aren't of much interest to me.
I try hard to write informative reviews that will be helpful (or shall I say "very helpful"?) to other fellow epinioners and visitors to this site. However, I don't treat these reviews as if they were essays for my English class (and even then, those essays don't reflect my best work because I'm just so goddam lazy when it comes to academic work). I spend about an hour per review, so most likely you won't be finding any Hemingway-esque masterpieces here. Still, don't let the occasional grammatical error deter you from reading my stuff.
I do not rewrite or delete my reviews. I don't mind that some of my earlier reviews are rated a mere "Helpful". It lets new epinioners learn the difference between a "helpful" review and a "very helpful" one. Also, it's nice for me to see how I've progressed as an epinioner. Reviews that I have edited (those that say that they have been "updated") have been changed in the slightest of manners. Usually it's due to finding something trivial like a missing comma right after I publish the review. Then, my obsessive-compulsiveness demands that I go back and make the correction.
About how I rate
Simply put, the quality of my rating is proportional to the quality of your review. I look for a nice blend of fact and opinion in reviews. If your epinion is informative, well-written, and contains opinions supported by evidence, then I will rate your review "Very Helpful". Bad reviews are reviews that just contain everything that was printed on the back of the box or contain unfocused and unsupported opinions (e.g. the 100-word music review that says "This album is good. It has a good beat. I think everyone should buy it.")
