I don't think every literate review is immediately Very Helpful. The glut of Very Helpful ratings across the Epinions site can make it difficult to find useful reviews on a popular product.
I continuously attempt to hold both myself and other reviewers to a high standard, which really isn't all that different than the standard Epinions guidelines for review rating.
I expect to see a Most Helpful rating on a review that is absolutely definitive, providing both objective facts and subjective opinion and a clear, informed, assured fashion in a style that is a pleasure to read.
In my mind, a Very Helpful review should give a very clear idea about almost all aspects of a product, or should coherently describe a product you already own in a way that you feel accurately represents the product to potential consumers. The review should do all of this without being overly lengthy - the author's style of writing should be enjoyable and concise.
I think a Helpful review should give well-informed (if not comprehensive) direction or guidance towards a potential purchase, included informed/supported personal opinion. Alternately, it should seem like an fair evaluation of a product you already own. It should be written clearly and easy to read.
To me, a Somewhat Helpful is average. It provides useful information on a product, but is flawed by some missing information and unclear or misguided opinions. It might errs for too much context or personal anecdotes while not providing enough detail about the product itself to make a decision. The author employ a style or voice that is not entirely consistent.
I think a Not Helpful review provides no clear advice on purchase, or seems to be an inconsistent description of a product you own. Though it can present an opinion of a product, the review does not address important aspects of the product, may be unclear or contradictory, and is a potentially difficult or unpleasant read.
