I'm 26-year-old graphic artist in Southern California. I'm a fervent and unrepentant Mac advocate, with some darn good reasons.
I believe purely in value as far as consumer items are concerned, and I don't mean the simple measure of dollars. There are lots of ways to spend less money on an item and get less value. The price of an item reflects its value. If you buy the cheapest computer, for example, you get what you pay for.
As far as music and literature go, I'm susceptible to suspension of disbelief. If a story, or song, or movie can make me believe in its premise and presents a cohesive (or at least an illusion of it) millieu, then I am likely to be swept away.
I'd recommend you read some Milan Kundera, Charles Bukowski, and Cormac McCarthy. Also, listen to some Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, and Palace Brothers.
