In October of 2001, I moved from Indianapolis to the heart of Chicago. I immediately fell in love with the city and wanted to explore as much as possible.
There was only one problem - there's SO MUCH to do and I didn't know the city at all. I'd try to find a restaurant or a store only to find out it was two miles away. I realized that other people living in or visiting Chicago would have the same problem. I decided to start off with my neighborhood and create a website that would be a comprehensive directory and guide. I thought about what I wanted to know - where I could eat and go out that was close to home, things to do within a five dollar cab ride, how to navigate the city with public transportation, what special events were occurring, etc.
The end result is The Local Tourist.
It's the only comprehensive website for downtown Chicago, and includes restaurants, nightlife, shopping, events, government, transportation, media, weekly newsletter, blog, articles about Chicago, and more...whew!
