I am a self-employed field surveyor, who works for local market research companies. I get flown into cities with a list of business addresses. I am payed to verify that the business is there, and that the address of record is correct. I record information about the building location and take a latitude and longitude reading. I use a GPS, pocket PC, notebook computer and cell phone to do my work. I use a variety of software and hardware to get the work done and communicate with the home office. I am responsible for setting up my work schedule, arranging for accommodations and handling flight reservations and car rental reservations. Work has had me go all over the U.S. and Canada. I have also had the occasion to work in Australia, Ireland and Puerto Rico.
