About Max_Dobberstein
|
I read just about anything, science fiction, fiction, mystery, science, history, social/political commentary. Like most writers who have yet to have their ideals crushed by the modern publishing world, I hate to classify my writing with any sort of genre. But if I must, I would call it comedy. There is always some sort of humorous streak running through all my work, whether it is totally screwball or more subtle with strains of drama. Right now I am working on a novel (screwball) and various comic book scripts (varying degrees of humor/drama). I have a BA in Political Science, so of course I work in computers, specifically as a network engineer. :) It is interesting, but I am not entirely satisfied. I am considering taking some programming classes and seeing if that is more suited to me tastes. Ultimately, like Jericho, my dream is to escape 9-5 employment and make my living as a writer/musician. I love all sorts of music. I grew up on AOR/hard rock. I live for Rush, Yes, David Bowie, Queensryche and King Crimson. A little over a decade ago I started getting into Jazz, especially Jaco Pastorious, McCoy Tyner, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (one of the world's best live bands) and Medeski, Martin and Wood. My symphonic tastes are still developing. I love Picture at an Exhibition (especially the '74 recording by the STL Symphony Orc.), The Rites of Spring, The Planets and the Fanfares. I play bass guitar, though lack of practice time has left me very rusty. I used to be able to improvise convincingly over any series of chords. Now I can barely fret convincingly. I am hoping to get more practice time in. Someday I would like to get a Jazz Metal band going. Off and on I also work on my novel. Outside of that, I am just sitting here under my proverbial boa tree, waiting for enlightenment to strike.
