About Mr_D
|
I tend to use Epinions.com as a sort of "Blog by review". The stuff I use, I write reviews on it - giving my thoughts. I tend to writer shorter (Brevity is the key to communication) emotionally written reviews so I can recall and give the feelings and impressions I got. My memory can be poor, so I like to look back and recall what I've done, it helps keep the memories fresh. And really, I just enjoy writing for fun.
Not to disrespect most of the community here, but I think many reviewers write far too much. They include info easily seen from the product page itself, or even worse, write a 2000 word review on an item that costs $2.99. If it costs me more in the time spent to read a review that it would to just have actually tried the product myself, I don't really consider that helpful. I keep most of my reviews around 200 words, it allows me to focus on the important elements of the product and really summarize what it is I am reviewing.
I find this especially fascinating because if you are an ADVISOR or whatever, you can get away with writing shorter reviews and still get the backscratching "Very Helpful" from everyone. But if you are a less important member of the community, people look at your review, see it is short, probably don't even read it - And reach for the "Helpful" or "Somewhat helpful" choices. So be it.
Where this becomes especially harmful is when the Epinions sheeple mentality comes in, people see a review already rated, and just rate it the same way.
Anyway, forgive my rant here. Just an explanation of how I feel about the whole "rating" system.
I hope you like my style, and I hope you find it entertaining and helpful - and I hope I will help you make a purchasing decision sometime. Maybe discover something new, maybe rediscover something old.
Thanks!
