I'm a sophomore Chemistry major at one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country -- the University of Washington. In the spring when the cherry blossoms dance in the air, eventually falling to carpet the ground, and the Cascades can be seen through a clear sky (not rainy fog), the scenery strikes one to the core. It's this inspiration and awing beauty that convinces me to endure the dark, wet Seattle winters.
While Chemistry is my major and a passion of mine (to understand how the idea of molecules and their miniscule yet influential elections can excite a person, read any of the books by Oxford Chemist P.W. Atkins), I love powerful ideas in many areas: literature, computer science, film, biology, philosophy, mathematics, the German language.... In all these fields, there is at least one commonality -- a fresh understanding, and thus view, of our reality.
