I was a master of a site long forgotten...
a happy land where people lived in harmony, sharing and caring and doing all that fuzzy stuff...
Then... shareholders stepped in
or CEOs
or some other sort.
As a free-market capitalist, I fully understand that the primary goal of any business should be to make money...
epinions will make money... for a time.
The site, however, that has become a religion for many is now committing heresy...
What Epinions failed to realize, and what will likely be their downfall, is that instead of realizing that they have a highly talented pool of web designers, programmers, and other such folks who would likely volunteer their services for free or super-cheap, they paid some unknown amount of money to copy anoth.. umm... to gather the "best" of other sites and blend it into the Epinions site. The thing to realize is that the people who have made epinions great, its writers, know far more than any consulting group or even the epinions employees themselves could about what the site needed to change, and what it didn't.
The only hope is that the Partner sites have more control over the style and shape of the site. If Epinions doesn't allow for more formatting and shaping of the site... well... looks like i'm heading to themestream.com or writtenbyme.com
