About otherland
I live for the weekends, a time when I can indulge in four of my favorite passions: food, drink, movies, and books. I give carefully thought-out, terse opinions of my experiences in each of these four genres. Remember, epinion or opinion, it's just one person's view. Food: I don't want to feel that the chef trained at the Museum of Modern Art. The word masterpiece should never be used on perishable objects that are masticated within minutes of serving. I simply want my food to... taste good. Yummy is adjective I'm not afraid to use. Drink: I love beer, a.k.a. liquid bread. My preference is for the darker and/or sweeter beers, but I have found a few light-colored beers that are excellent in their own right. I've lived in California for a few years now, so even though I'm a novice in the wine area, I have graduated from blush. Movies: I run the gamut from funhouse to arthouse (with the exception of slasher films - not the best compliment to the dinner and movie combo). The movies I enjoy have a, and I stress, COMPLETE story woven in, and are not as predictable as a second time through your kiddie's viewfinder. Books: I love wildly-imaginative fiction. A few chapters into a really good book and I suddenly develop insomnia. Sympathetic characters, political or social intrigue, intricate plots, and lush details are the combination that I look for. Sorry, I find my car manual more interesting than Michael Crichton's books.
