How long will this one last?
Funny how this is like my 4th comeback, and every one of them seems shorter than the last. I have no idea why I just can't keep it together for a long period of time. In any event, I was looking around randomly and noticed that content and quality was probably a bit down in the games section.(Although there seems to a lot of names I hadn't previously seen writing good reviews as well) And while I'm not sure if the games section needs saving(not that I could so anyway), I decided to come back and share my 6.5 off and on years of experience. I have no real goals this time except to waste some time and have some fun, and I think those are both achievable. That said, it's sad to see that most of the guys that originally helped bring me up on the site are gone now. I feel kind of ancient actually, I mean I was an "editor" at one point for god sake. Oh well, time goes on.
I'm going to stick to games mostly but I hope to branch out into movies and music as well being though I've really gotten into both over the last couple of years. I don't know if anyone actually reads these things, but I'll close by saying that I hope Ill be around for a while, and I look forward to reading reviews of some of the members that are new to me.
How do I do the damn thing?
In terms of writing reviews, my original goal for longetivity here was to have a little fun. I try to put as much personality as possible into my reviews without ruining my credibility.(which I may do at times) When it stops being fun, and starts feeling like a job to write these suckers, I won't do it anymore...straight up. People familiar with my reviews could probably recognize them without my user name next to them, and I pride myself in that to an extent.
How do I rate
First off, realize that I only spend a "good deal of time" rating in the games section because it's the only place that I consider myself an expert. To get yourself a Very Helpful review from me, you'll need to cover all of the main aspects of the game. I expect to see some detail on the game's story, graphics, sound, control, and usually replay value. I also look for at least decent spelling and grammar, and a lot of good information. Helpful reviews are good reads, but they are generally missing detail on one or two of the games main aspects. Somewhat Helpful have a good start, but are lacking supporting detail and "reasons why". Finally, NH are typically one paragraph reviews with little information or plagurized reviews. I try to leave comments on my SH and NH reviews unless another member has already covered things.
Web of Trust
First, thank you for all the members that have trusted me for all these months of my absence. That aside, I take my personal Web of Trust very seriously. I have to really like what you do, for a long period of time, to "trust" you. If you are on my WOT, you're one of the few, and you've done a very good job here. Trust should be fully earned, I won't trust you just because you trust me, and you shouldn't trust me just because I trust you.
Here to help...
Got questions about reviewing in the games section, or on my reviews, or on a comment I've left? You can contact me via email at Pavey21@comcast.net, or via AIM at Pavey21. And if not me, there's also some games advisors that I'm sure could help you out as well.
