About profaudio1
I was born in the hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live with my wonderful wife and two sons in beautiful central Pennsylvania.

My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering and Audio Engineering. I taught Audio Engineering at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate) until my growing business required my full attention.

I own and operate a small company specializing in residential whole house music systems, custom home theaters, commercial music systems, public address systems for houses of worship and schools, Plus A/V media systems for corporate board rooms, churches and schools.

Music and photography have been my passions for over 30 years. Playing bass and guitar keep me humble. Listening to music inspires me. Photography allows me to express myself artistically and create a visual record of travels, family life & experiences.

My photographic background has been primarily with Canon gear, although my first "serious" camera was a Mamiya / Sekor. My second camera was a Canon A-1, followed by a host of EOS film and digital SLR bodies. I still use the old A-1 fairly regularly, partly due to the excellent FD lenses that we have accumulated over the years and because it has been almost like a friend to my wife and me. The three of us (including the A-1) have visited a lot of very interesting places together. We get to "revisit" them anytime we feel like rummaging through the hundreds of pounds of banker's boxes that are filled with our precious prints and negatives. (Talk about a "mountain of memories...")

The Canon A-1 has only required service one time since 1979. It still functions perfectly and looks almost like brand new. That is the main reason why I feel so comfortable with Canon photographic products. I dislike their fax machines and a few other non-photo related Canon products that I have owned over the years. However, I have not had a single bad experience with Canon cameras or lenses, and I have owned literally hundreds of them. (Correction: there was one particular lens that I found unacceptable and had to exchange). I frequently sell-off some of my items through eBay auctions, especially Canon lenses. I am always trying out new "glass" and I like to collect the models that have served me best.

My wife and I also enjoy art collecting, movies, hiking and ... (well, never mind that one) and attending live musical performances. We especially like classical music (primarily baroque), orchestral, popular standards and classic rock. Anything from J. S. Bach, Mozart, Sibelius and Beethoven to Dave Matthews, Sting, Aerosmith and Pink Floyd can send us directly to the online ticket vendor.

I have done a lot of technical writing over the years, things like operating manuals and system instructions. I have had some experience as an advertising copywriter for radio and newspapers. This has been intellectually challenging, but not really that much fun. For enjoyment, I have recently started to share my experiences and impressions of certain photographic, video and audio equipment in the form of buyer's guides and reviews.

I hope that readers will find the information and insights in my reviews to be useful and interesting. I welcome questions and comments because my writing certainly has plenty of room for improvement. I am grateful for constructive criticism that helps my writing to be more accurate, clear and effective. Helping others to make well informed buying decisions is a very satisfying source of fulfillment for me.

Be well.
