About ratwood

My interests include music, movies (preferably on DVD), books, fitness, Playstation 2 and NPR. I've been a volunteer Big Brother for about 6 years to a teenage skateboarder. which I think keeps me active and up to date on some of the latest trends. I also try to stay in shape by running 5 miles three times per week.
Sometimes I think my tastes are a bit too expensive (too much Polo!) so I pride myself on finding bargains on quality stuff. I've done a lot of buying and selling over eBay and consider myself to be fairly good at ferreting out deals on clothing, electronics, video games, DVDs and CDs.
I work as an engineering manager at a mid-sized software company in the Boston area. I've been there for almost 9 years now -- unusual in high tech, but it says a lot about what a terrific company it is. Sometimes I think my engineering background has contributed to making me an "early adopter" of certain technologies, such as DVDs and digital television. I was also an early convert to the CD format, in 1983. My collection of classical CDs currently numbers around 1500 discs (although thousands more have passed through my hands over the many years) and I have about 600 spanning other genres. (Music is a huge part of my life.)
