Number 846????Dec 27 '00 Write an essay on this topic.Yikes!! It took me 2 minutes to load the page with all of the opinions on this subject!! I know what you're thinking..."Yet another epinionator ranting about how she rates reviews! Who does she think she is anyway?" Answer: Just like you! I don't profess to be the know-it-all of grammar and writing. I think I have a pretty good idea though. I put a lot of work into writing the opinions that I write and it takes a good bit of time to do them well. I do not strive for average...I strive for perfection. Some would say that is a conceited remark, but it's not. I know I'm not perfect, but it doesn't stop me from trying at least! LOL! When I am rating reviews, I rate on a scale that I expect people will and do rate me. It's pretty easy to get an HR from me, but it's also easy to get an R as well. It's seldom that I give out an SR and almost never that I will dole out an NR. You have to be a real slacker to get an NR. I look for grammar, punctuation, spelling, structure and content. If you have a very informative review yet do not present it well, you will get an R. If you have neither interesting/informative content nor correct grammar, then you will more than likely get an SR. If I have written a review on the same product or subject matter, then you will be rated based on how I was rated on the same subject. I do not just give out HR's because everyone else has given them to you or because you may be on my WOT. I give them out because I feel that you have earned it. I work hard on my opinions. It wouldn't be fair to myself if I rated HR's to everyone I read just to be nice. It wouldn't be fair to you either since it will not help you to improve your writing style. I am very grateful to the people who helped me along in the beginning and critiqued my reviews. It has helped me out tremendously. It's hard not to think that you are just the worse writer in the world when you get NR's or SR's all the time. If this is the case, ask someone you trust to help you out and give you some ideas. Take some ideas from other opinions. Study up on grammar and make sure you check your spelling. Don't give up!! Misspelled words is one of my biggest pet peeves. Epinions does the work for you by highlighting the words that are misspelled. The only thing you have to do is to go back and change them. Get a dictionary for pete's sake or look up the word online. If you can't take the time to do that and submit your opinions anyway, you are not working hard enough to represent the subject you are trying to represent. Making an impression on people is the main aspect of persuading them into making (what you feel to be) a better decision. If you care that little about making an impression, then you don't belong here and you deserve the SR that I give you! Just so that I don't get beat with a wet noodle on this one....I am not talking about the occasional mess-up. I am talking about continuously misspelled words that are plainly visible to you when you are given the option to edit your review before submitting it! I do not expect anyone to be William Shakespeare or Stephen King on here either!! If you are...GREAT....let me know and I'll read your stuff! Grammar is important. I cringe when I see things like, "and that don't look right for them there people." Come on now! You may talk like that and that's fine (I guess), but don't write it! Use that thing inside your head that we like to call a brain! I can sit and write opinion after opinion on stuff that doesn't mean two squats or a hill of beans. It would make me lots of money, but I also want to maintain a respectable image. Those who crank out 100's of opinions in a short span of time generally are not writing with quality. Remember that, "Quality is better than quantity." I don't like to rate too many recipe reviews. I feel they are just space fillers and don't offer a lot of original ideas. If you have an original recipe, then tell me it's an original. That is more interesting to me than reading the 100th recipe about how to make chocolate chip cookies. If you got a good recipe from a book, then write a review about the book and give the recipe as an example. I have been on epinions for almost 3 months now and have only written 27 reviews. I am a little hard on myself though. I do not expect greatness from anyone, just common sense. If I don't feel I can write a review worth someone else's time to read, then I will not write it. All I ask, is for the same consideration! Thanks and Happy Writing!!!! |
