1000 and 1 Reasons To Use the Web of Trust

Jun 05 '00

I was recently contacted by another member of Epinions questioning me as to my motives by adding a more controversional Epinionator to my Web of Trust. While this person will not receive a personal response from me, I have decided to waste another review reflecting on the Epinions site.

Why I Add to My Web of Trust

1) I have stumbled on one of your reviews. I liked that review. I looked at your profile page. I found MORE reviews I liked. The reviews were either useful or entertaining.

2)You have added me to YOUR Web of Trust. I spend a good portion of my time looking at the work of everyone who has taken the time to list me as a trusted member-whatever their motives. I try to add everyone to my list if I like their work. I also try to read every epinion written by the member who has just added me or I have just added. Call me neurotic. This process takes time and I am way behind but plan to catch up this week.

3)I have talked to you outside Epinions and I like you. I like your work.

4)I do not have to AGREE with you to trust you. Who is to say which side is right in the breastfeeding debate? As long as you express yourself without insulting others and are sane-I can trust you.

Why I May Have Removed You from my Web of Trust

1)You are no longer an active member of Epinions. Email me when you pick up the torch again and I'll add you back.

2) This is the BIGGEST reason for removal. You have contacted me to try to intimate me into removing another member from my Web of Trust. If you no longer want to be associated with me because of an addition I have made-remove me from your trust list. Just go in and hit the edit button on your account. It is really simple. No hard feelings. In fact I will probably keep reading you, after all you were added because I liked your work.

To sum up this review and to hopefullly help new members decide how to use their Web of Trust I would have say all the Webs are very personal options. You will find members who trust solely to gain trust, you will find members who trust no one,you will find members who use the Web of Trust like a bookmark to link back to their favorite reviewers and you will find members who use it to communicate with other members.

However you use the Web of Trust is up to you. It is whatever you make it. Just don't email me about my choices-it is just tacky.
