When do I read/rate someone's work?
Jun 30 '00 (Updated Jul 07 '00)
Revised July 7.
Why add someone to your WOT?
When you add someone to your Web of Trust (WOT) you like their work. You possibly feel you have some sort of connection or insight with the author. You enjoy that person's work, and probably feel that it's something you are interested in...
Who do I add?
Similarily, when someone adds me to their Web of Trust, I believe they feel these things. In turn, I usually read at least five of their epinions, and usually add them to my own Web of Trust, then reading the rest as the week(s) move on. If the person does not write very many opinions, and there are hardly any new alerts to that author (I do ask for elerts/alerts to each trusted member) then I might not keep that person on my web of trust until he or she reappears in epinions. If I really really think the person is a good writer, I will keep him or her on the WOT (as I've had several nasty comments, things like if it's your brother in law, and he only writes every third full moon, how can you kick him off?) obviously there are exceptions. But for the most part, if you disappear after a few months, you've probably forgotten about the site or had bad experiences. WOT is a good thing, but having a lot of dead weight is not. I visit people that trust me at least once a day, and I don't want to continue going back if I've already rated ALL of their work. Was that question solved?
How often do I read and rate?
I usually read/rate at least 100 epinions a day, from all over the community. I've just found epinions over a month ago, and I'm addicted. I have a job where I just sit at my desk all day, and answer the phone, if it doesn't ring, I am on the internet doing virtually nothing. I don't often give comments, BUT I will rate every review that I read. Since my web of trust is growing, I usually pick through those before I go out browsing.
Something odd about me!
One last thing, I love to read BAD reviews. Don't add me just for this reason, because I rate bad reviews bad (if they are so.) ... But I love going into the hotmail category, or other similar categories, and read the worst rated reviews. I don't know why. I guess shorter reviews are funnier, or the reviews where people are trying to get in their 100 words. So don't think that because you are a bad author that I won't read from you.
Thank you everyone for reading my reviews.
Julie.
