Excellent job! (Reply to this comment)

This was a very well-written epinion, and it will be helpful to a lot of new, struggling members. I would have given this a VHR, or hall-of-fame designation if there was a special category for that.

Thanks Helen, now if only we can give that warmth and friendship feeling that I get when reading my comments to our newbies. They'd never want to leave! :-)

Hmmm, hadn't thought of creating a section on my profile page for new members, that's a great idea. :-)

The Kindness of Strangers (Reply to this comment)
by pogomom
Echoing Petra and TeddieC, I love the analogy and your challenge. Mentoring is the most important aspect of being a part of the Epinions' community. While it is mentioned as a requirement for Advisor status, each and every one of us should make a point of taking a new or floundering member under their wing. How many truly talented individuals were lost to us, after only a handful of reviews, thanks to some lout's nasty or tactless comment? While our village is fast becoming a metropolis, we need to nurture the newbie and continue to support those whose talents attracted us in the first place.
Ranting here, but you really touched a nerve. Wonderfully written and full of food for thought, this editorial deserves so much more than a simple HR. Outstanding!

This was a nice edition! (Reply to this comment)

Great ideas in here and the style in which it was written.
I found many new members that way and mentioned them on my page for awhile too.

I'm sure the new "kid" will appreciate your efforts, and if you play it right, he just might get better than the "old guy". :-)

Teddi, it's obvious that you have made it in this community. As an Advisor I hope you will help pass on your own wisdom to the newer folks in town.

And Another Totally Different One :-) (Reply to this comment)
by Petra
I love this ... we haven't had two alike in this write-off so far...
I am with teddiec on this one. I love this idea and the analogy of the "seniors" at Epinions being "family" to the newcomers. And how many around here act like the wicket fairytale stepmother who likes to dump her stepkids in the woods somewhere or even tries to off them altogether?
As I read this, I think I already found a "kid" not long ago. A new writer, and really a kid, bullied by an old member. I think I'll go back and e-mail him and see if he needs anything more than a smart remark to the oldie in his comment section. :-)

This Was Wonderful! (Reply to this comment)

As a newcomer I hope more epinionaters take this advice to heart! I sometimes find myself longing for more of a connection, especially when you have opinion after opinion without any comments!

GREAT!! (Reply to this comment)
by teddiec
I love this analogy, I mean really love it!
The concept of helping the new kid, raising-you're brilliant! (and more importantly-kind)
So many of us were helped by another member, and I know my experience here would be completely different (and not for the better) if there hadn't been members willing to bother with me!
Thank you!
