My Ratings - How and Why

I love reading Epinions! The more I read, the better I am at rating those epinions. Here are some of the things I look for:
Information Whether I agree or disagree with the epinion does not matter. The fact that it is honest, accurate and gives good information is what does count. This item alone is generally the most important factor in determining my rating.
Originality I like to see original thoughts and ideas, and that the author truly has the ability to express his epinion through an interesting writing.
Length vs Content I believe that content is much more important than length. If a review can be done effectively with less words, I don't enjoy reading material that was put there just to make the article look more impressive. On the other hand, there must be all the facts and information necessary for an intelligent epinion and informed decision.
Grammar and Spelling I don't overlook spelling mistakes easily - not when epinions provides a spell checker! I also do not like to see obvious grammatical errors. My personal problem, perhaps, but for me it is annoying and detracts from what the author is trying to say.
Profanity and Foul Language Absolutely unacceptable. Any article using this will receive an automatic Not Recommended from me. There are scores of adults who do not appreciate this, not to mention the fact that there are minors who could also be surfing the site.
With those items in mind, these are the general guidelines I use in my ratings:
Highly Recommended - meets all the criteria of being informative, original, and interestingly written. The length should be appropriate for the specific article, and answer the majority of any questions I may have. I will probably overlook one or two grammar/spelling mistakes IF the other criteria is well met. But in NO case will I rate ANYTHING as Highly Recommended if it contains any type of profanity or vain language.
Recommended - meets at least 3 out of 4 of the areas of Information, Originality, Length and Content, but lacks in one of those areas. Minimal grammar/spelling mistakes and again NO questionable language of any kind.
Somewhat Recommended - meets at least 2 of the areas of Information, Originality, Length and Content, but lacks in the other two. The author probably needs to go back and develop the epinion some more. I will be left with questions or doubts that should have easily been answered in the epinion. Minimal grammar/spelling errors and NO questionable language.
Not Recommended - simply does not give enough information in the areas noted, poorly written, contains several errors, or uses unacceptable language.
Other Notes I try to be fair in my ratings, and appreciate those who rate my epinions. I truly enjoy reading on a variety of subjects, and am amazed what I learn! When I read epinions that I enjoy, I am apt to add that author to my e-mail notification list. And I do try to reciprocate by reading and rating the epinions of those who read and rate mine. I also enjoy surfing the opinions of those I trust, those who trust me, authors whose interests are the same as mine, and authors who are trusted by those I trust. I hope you enjoy reading and rating epinions as much as I do!
