</B>Rating an article fairly is IMPORTANT!</B>

Many of us have come across very interesting articles/reviews on Epinions and have usually given it a rating based on how much we agree/disagree with the article itself. But is this a FAIR thing to do? Should we go about rating somebody’s article simply based on what we personally think of the product ourselves, especially if we already own it?
Rating an article is usually important to most Epinions writers and many take pride in the fact that their articles get a highly recommended or recommended rating most of the time. But many also wonder why some just tear down an article even though a lot of time and effort went into producing a fair, honest opinion on something. It makes many feel that they didn’t succeed in convincing a certain few that the product/service was great or garbage. Now, to be quite honest, I don’t really care how people rate my articles although, I usually get an HR or R rating, which is good. :) But in the end, it all comes down to how we personally feel about a particular article. Was it informative? Did I learn anything from it? Did it keep my attention? Was the article just plain silly? All of these factors and many others come into play when we make that choice. Should we rate everything we read? Well, I suppose it isn’t a bad idea. If you didn’t like an article, say so by giving the reviewer a somewhat recommended or even a not recommended rating, it may warn others that the article isn’t all it is cracked up to be. Yet, many articles simply are not rated at all, I usually see about 30 ratings on my articles with about 75 people visiting the article in total. That’s a lot of people not rating. Could these extra ratings affect how the article is viewed upon as a whole? Of course, maybe with a few more HR or a few more SR, my article wouldn’t/would be more enticing to read.
In the end, rating is a pretty important thing to do in the Epinions community, and it only takes a minute of your time too. These ratings help others decide if the article is worth reading or not. Speak your mind when it comes to reading/rating articles, it will help the Epinions community. But above all, vote fairly, and be honest. Don’t be shy to give an article a low rating or a high one either, it helps us all out in the end.
