Finally! My entry to Cmuir's 200th Epinions write-off.
Nov 07 '00
OK! Here I go. Finally! My first write-off! I was so excited about being invited. Thanks Cmuir and let me congratulate you on your 200th Epinion.
Thanks ACDC711 for taking the time to write an E-mail for me explaining my puter problems and reason for my tardiness.
Be careful folks! I lost many, very important files and our keyboard due to a virus called The Worm. I am very careful and still got clobbered.

When Cindi asked us to write about my favorite writer, many had trouble choosing. They felt put on the spot, unable to select, not wanting to hurt others in their Epinions family. I had no problem. Without hesitation, Hard To Please came to mind immediately.
With the exception of what appears on his Profile, I don't know much about Hard's personal life. He is a Manager in the Mortgage Department in St. Louis.
I do know the writer and the level of emotion that he so brilliantly conveys. More often than not, this is achieved through humor.
What stands out most to me is the fact that despite his numerous hits and comments, he takes the time to read, rate, comment and respond. He makes this his priority and chooses it over writing. I truly believe that this is the most contributory ingredient to the level of success that he is able to achieve.
The first review that I read was entitled, She slapped me so hard, I peed on the couch. It's about a computer game called The Sims. I was lucky to have come upon this review. At the time, several friends and I were consumed with this life-like simulation where you get to create and control (to a degree) the lives of people in a neighborhood that you also get to develop. If you know anything about the game, you yourself will pee, just from the title!
Did I mention his fixation with urine? Those that have come to love him, realize that more often than not, you can count on a reference to urine in his reviews. Though an analyst by nature, I won't even attempt this one!
When I was a newbie, I must admit that Hard's Epinions name was a little intimidating. I was afraid to check to see if he would even read my reviews, let alone leave a high rating. I have never been disappointed. Either he is not so hard to please or I am one heck of a writer! < Grin >
In Uglier in life, even uglier in death, he provides a list, chock full of advice and tips on smoking cessation. Through his admission to his personal conflict and difficulty, I have learned not to be too hard on myself for my own difficulties. He taught me that guilt is only a stumbling block that will get in your way of accomplishing a successful goal. Thanks guy!
His piece in June on Survivor dethroned me from my reign as perhaps the only person in America to have never tuned into this show. He sparked an interest, so strong that I too joined the rest of the country.
On a sad note, What it feels like to loose 2 best friends in two weeks showed us a side of him that many may not have known existed. Though many may have seen it as being atypical of his style, I saw it as being typical of his ability to convey all levels of emotion. He had me crying my eyes out. Pretty good in that I am not an overt animal lover.
The aforementioned piece yielded 255 HR's and 116 comments. He still took the time to respond to my comment by leaving very appreciated words by commenting to one of my reviews.
In his profile, he mentions that after 200 reviewers post a rating that Epinions does not add you name. He suggests leaving a comment stating that a visit was made so that he knows you were there. Rest assured, I do not have to leave such a comment. He can count on a visit and rating from me.

Be rest assured that I will read all reviews of those who participated in this write-off, but please be patient. I chose to write before reading and rating. Had I made the latter my priority, we may have celebrated another millennium before I got to write this.
My 100th review is coming soon, expect an E-mail! All suggestions on a topic to choose are welcome.
In closing, thanks Hard for making me laugh and cry and for making life a little easier to cope with. Like Ladycynic, I also look forward to a visit to your site when things are tough. Many times, I leave disappointed because a new post is not there but I know you are busy reading, rating and commenting.
