How I Rate Your Epinions
Mar 02 '00
When I rate reviews I do not rate them based on whether or not I have a positive or negative opinion on the product it is that I am reading about, rather, I rate depending on the epinion's usefulness overall in telling me something about the product that I could use to decide whether or not I should try that particular product.
If the review provides all the information I would deem necessary to judge the product, I rate it well. I look to see that the person listed as much information about the product in question as they possibly could.
I also see if I feel that the person put as much effort as possible into the epinion. This is usually easy to tell by the spelling, grammar, punctuation, and length as well. I do not find that simple one paragraph opinions are thourough enough to provide sufficient information about a product, on the other hand, some products I know are not complex enough to take up much writing space. Bottom line is that I look to see if the person has done justice to the product by writing enough to cover all important aspects of that product.
I give Highly Recommended ratings to those spectacular reviews that there is no doubt in my mind that the reviewer put their all into writing it. The review gives me enough information for me to be able to decide if I would like to try that product or see that movie, etc. These opinions are very inciteful and the reviewers are definitely knowledgeable about the topic.
Recommended ratings go to reviews that are average. They tell you the best and worst thing about the product and that's about it. They do not go into very intricate details about the product. These reviews show effort but just do not provide quite enough information to be Highly Recommended.
Somewhat Recommended ratings, which I dislike giving out, go to reviews that cover a topic minimally, going into only one or two aspects of a topic, and not giving full information on any aspect of the product being reviewed. These opinions show minimal effort and do not deserve high ratings.
Not Recommended ratings go to opinions that are just wastes of space at epinions.com. These "opinions" cannot really even rightfully be called opinions. They provide no information whatsoever about the topic and they show no effort at all. I dislike coming across reviews that deserve this rating, but I will give this rating out when I find an appropriate recipient.
