How to give good head(lines)

Newspaper headline writers have known the secret for more than 200 years" A good headline (Epinions calls it a "title" ... same difference) brings the reader's eye to your story. It delivers the first punch, enticing a reader to delve deeper.

The keys to good headlines are the keys to good writing in general: Strong verbs, accuracy, interesting topics and unique perspectives. And plays on words are always helpful, unless the pun-ishment runs counters to the true intent of the story/opinion.

Yes, on Epinion, a good title/headline can attract more readers ... as long as it accurately reflects the substance in your thoughts. If not, readers will likely learn you're all hat and no cows (translated from Wyoming-speak: You got no substance.)

Above all, be creative with your titles AND accurate. The more you can capture the razzle-dazzle and heft of your opinion in one short phrase, the better. Think of the headline/title as an advertisement for your thoughts .... do you like it when false advertisers play tricks on you?
