Diluting the System
Oct 03 '00
I consider it a sad day when I can log onto Epinions and when I look at the "Just In" section, all I see is two reviews that consist of nothing more than:
lalalalalalalalalalalala
lalalalalalalalalalalalal
alalalalalalalalalalalalal
alalalalalalalalalalalalal.......
and
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa........
These were the two most recent reviews, The good and The bad. I couldn't believe it! This says to me that their is an ever increasing amount of Epinionators (if you want to call them that) who don't care about the system at all. It is apparent that the members are definitely growing quickly in number and the reviews are coming in faster than they ever have in the past. Therefore there is so much more to read and the likelihood of your review being read has decreased as a result. Reputable reviewers are becoming lost in the sea of fraudulent reviews like those above. The massive amounts of cheap shot reviews and filler like those above are making it harder, more laborious and less fruitful to wade through it all.
When you write your new review it is almost immediately covered up by tens of others. Some of them are great but many, too many, of them are short, dime a dozen, quick fix reviews that make it harder for people who are actually searching for real information, to find what they are looking for.
This is discouraging because I put so much of my energy into my reviews. I take pride in them and work hard at making them the best I think they can be but then they're being over-shadowed by thousands of others. I think the majority of Epinion writers have good intentions but there are some that are diluting the system for the rest of us.
