A Newbie's Observations on Epinions

I have only been a member of epinions for a two weeks now, but I thought I’d share my observations with you from a newbie’s point of view. I’ll start with the negatives, that way I can end on a positive note.
1) Some people just have waaaaay too much time on their hands. You all know who I mean. The “members” (I write that tongue in cheek) with their “a a a a a a a a” reviews, or the even more literate “this is bad this is bad this really sucks”. Don’t these people have a 7-Eleven they can go hang out at?
2) Why do people rate the “a a a a a” etc. opinions? Why bother? It’s self-evident that it’s an “NR”. Don’t waste your time when there are other opinions that are worth reading and rating. I think it’s just encouraging the writers of these ridiculous “opinions” by rating them.
3) I have had some members put me on their WOT, and I really have no idea why. I say this because they have never rated an opinion of mine, I doubt they have even read an opinion of mine. Please, if you’re going to trust my opinions, at least read them. And if you read them, please rate them. I don’t mind if you don’t HR it, just rate it honestly.
4) How immature does one have to be to “Revenge Rate”? It’s pretty pathetic that some people get their only ego strokes from the ratings they get at epinions, and then to revenge rate because someone else didn’t like your opinion? Get a life people! It really isn’t the end of the world if someone doesn’t like what you wrote!
And now for the positives!
5) This place is really, really addictive! (Well, actually, that might be a negative, depending on your point of view!) I find myself coming back over and over again….I am really impressed with the variety of people and opinions I have come across. It’s really wonderful how so many different people, from all walks of life, can come together to express themselves!
6) I have been impressed by the way people have been able to rate other’s writing without their own personal feelings overcoming their objectivity. Although I have not always agreed with the opinions expressed by other writers, I have still rated highly based on content and writing. I am assuming that others are doing the same.
7) I have learned a lot from reading the opinions posted, be they on games I might be interested in purchasing for my children, movies I have considered renting or going out to see, or products I might purchase for myself and my family. I am able to make more informed decisions based on information I have found at epinions.
8) There are so many excellent writers out there! To those of you who have made me burst out laughing, I thank you! With three kids roaring around my house I really need a good laugh to get me through the day. To those of you who have made me cry, I thank you! You have touched my heart with your honesty and sharing of your feelings.
I have to tell you all that I am so pleased to have been accepted into the community. I appreciate all your wonderful comments. Please continue to leave me comments, whether they’re just telling me you like what I wrote, or suggestions on how to improve (please, if you have suggestions on ways to make my opinions better I would really appreciate your leaving them!), I find them all very helpful. And if you honestly hate what I write, that’s okay too. I may go into a corner and lick my wounds, but I will come back….after all, NR’s aren’t the end of the world, are they?
