Among those who have shaped me as a person are Bobby Kennedy, Frederic Douglass, Lincoln Steffens, Eugene Debs, Robert LaFollette, Noam Chomsky, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Bill Bailey, Malcolm X and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. My intellectual hero is Noam Chomsky. My literary hero is F. Scott Fitzgerald.
I am a writer, and I earn my living writing software documentation while working towards:
1. Selling one of my finished screenplays while writing still more.
2. Writing the "Great Rob Anderson Novel" and getting it published, with more to follow.
3. Writing a variety of odd short stories and likewise getting them published.
4. Make my first independent film - hey, I just did that!
I am a child of modern America, raised on television and pop music and bad fiction, who has only in recent years managed to slice through that crusty chrysalis and float away. Like anyone my age (38 - nope, I'm not vain), the best years of my life were spent in the 1980s, which to me is akin to saying I spent the best years of my life in prison. Graduated from high school in 1983 from Newark Memorial High in Newark, California (CELEBRITY NOTE: Chris Titus, of the FOX TV show "Titus", was a schoolmate). Graduated from college in 1988 from San Francisco State University with a cum laude degree in English Literature With A Concentration in Creative Writing. I stayed on in San Francisco for another four years. During my tenure in that most romantic of cities, I managed to be inspired by almost everything I saw and experienced.
Since moving away from The City it's been work, read, write, sleep, repeat, except on Sundays, when I watch entirely too much television (60 Minutes, The Simpsons, Six Feet Under). I am blessed with many friends, and a decent enough family.
Là, cela m'est.
