My christian name was given to me by my father; by the power of deductive reasoning, I will assume that my surname - Foster was selected by law. Therefore, I have no doubt that my mother, being a McFarlane, was happy to settle for the family pet name of Joy. My international and African friends call me Shapiro which I've adopted as a surname. I had the good pleasure of meeting these diversity of peoples in 91/92 while pursuing a post graduate degree in Water Quality Management at the International Institute for Infrastructure, Hydraulic, and Environmental Engineering (IHE) in Delft, the Netherlands. Therefore, my professional career continued along the line of an environmental engineering scientist or environmentalist upon returning to my island, Caribbean home - Jamaica.
