I'm a twenty-something engineer, with inexplicably strong opinions on (pop) culture.

About sjacobson

How to define or summarize a person so briefly, so succinctly? Encoded in tantalizing yet impartial bits and bytes, so what does it really mean, anyway? Life is certainly not digital, at any rate; the division of the universe into binary choices in one of those fallacious assessments made by those fearful of the unimaginable abyss of infinite ambiguity.
But hey, why not try? I am a 25-year-old woman. I work as an system/test engineer for Scientific-Atlanta. Anyway, I hail originally from Central New York: born in Binghamton, and moved to Ithaca when I was 12. I got my Bachelors degree (in Engineering--yes, there is such a thing as a general Engineering degree) at Harvey Mudd College (a small engineering college in Claremont, CA), and lived in Orange County, CA (with a year or so hiatus in Huntsville, AL) up until December 2000... since then, I have been living in the 'burbs of Atlanta, GA, with my husband, who does sound for live bands.
I am something of a literature fan, although not nearly as well-read as I'd like to be. My favorite author is Thomas Pynchon; other beloved ones are James Joyce, Tom Robbins, Salman Rushdie, and basically anybody with that glorious use of prose and a new perspective on reality. George Bernard Shaw is my favorite playwright hands-down, but Arthur Miller and Edward Albee are up there, too.
I am also a music addict--almost every genre can be found in my collection. My favorites drift around, depending on my mood--I still listen to stuff I've always loved, like the Pogues, Talking Heads, and the Cure, but lately find that my favorites live in the indie rock realm. (My favorite right now is probably the Verlaines--an indie rock band from New Zealand, extant in the '90's.)
