THE EXCELLENT AND THE EXCRUCIATING WRITE-OFF
Participants
Excellent Review
Random Comments
knotheadusc Music: Unclassified [ECD] - Robert Randolph & The Family Band Jenny was the first one to submit a review for the W-O... about three weeks early! She gets the punctuality prize.
telynor Movies: The Cherry Orchard Rebecca also managed to submit her excruciating review wicked early, but Jenny posted both at once, so she retains the punctuality prize.
johngo Book: Orlando John is one of the most erudite individuals I have found thus far on Epinions, so you might need a dictionary on hand for this...
dizzybint Film: A Beautiful Mind (2001) Caroline, also early, managed to capture the spirit of the write-off quite well, if I may say (and I may, 'cause it was my idea... partially)
Music: Tapestry [Remaster] - Carole King And entering for the second time (and making me look bad), she surpasses her first efforts, in my opinion.
Book: The Colour of Magic And making me look even worse, she does it a third time! This is a great review of Pratchett's first Discworld novel, by the way.
pippadaisy Book: Interview with the Vampire Miss Daisy gets extra points for writing both the excellent and the excruciating review on books by the same author.
dbcint Music: Fallen - Evanescence Dean chose one of my favorite rock albums of the past year as his excellent subject... sweet!
Film: George of the Jungle (1997) So for his second entry, Dean chose a film I wouldn't expect as his subject. Somehow it works, though.
Stephen_Murray Book: Little Scarlet One can generally expect dense, insightful prose from S_M. Another one of those damn erudite types that make me feel intellectually inadequate...
kookytree Excellent review pending... Sean, whom I've never read before, managed to completely crush an abysmal-sounding CD in his excruciating review. Go check it out!
Yours truly, folks... Books: The Great Divorce Took me a while, but I eventually got there. Hey, as host, I'm allowed some leeway.
treeseed Book: Pat of Silver Bush Terrie also managed to write both reviews on books by the same author, so kudos to her. This is a wonderfully glowing review, by the way.
CaptainD Film: A Beautiful Mind (2001) Like a good write-off host, Dave posted both his entries according to the rules on the kick-off date, making me feel rather bad, dammit. Or not.
Fez_Monkey Online Stores & Services: National Car Rental I'm honestly not sure whether this was the excellent or excruciating review, but it was excellently and excruciatingly funny. Nothing less than expected, of course.
pearannoyed Book: Blackberry Wine Amy fell through the cracks somehow, and I'm slightly embarassed. Thanks to her for reminding me of her participation... *sheepish grin*
drdevience Travel: Uncle Sam's Boat Tours It's almost not a legitimate write-off unless Doc's involved, so I'm glad she deigned to join in ours. As a reward, she gets to see me in a kilt next week...
damieng Books: The Postman Always Rings Twice Damien's a man of mystery... mystery novels, that is. Into noir fiction? Check out his reviews.
icicleie Music: Supernatural - Santana A relative newcomer to the site, Ruaidhri writes consistently great reviews, whether it be books, wine, or music.
millinocket Film: The Shawshank Redemption Don't let Sue's mild-mannered appearance fool you. Try reading a few of her comment sections for the real story...
puckmugger Gourmet: Kauai Coffee Company Estate Reserve Peaberry - Green So the puckster doesn't just write about hockey! Who knew? Apparently he's good at writing other things too (funnily, of course).
janteloven Restaurants: IKEA Soren, the mad, Kierkegaardian, Norwegian, polymath, philosophizing poet of Lillestrom graced our W-O in his idiosyncratic style, and it's much appreciated.
dpjohansen Music: Us [Remaster] - Peter Gabriel David's another Scandinavian who's ridiculously fluent in English, and has managed an excellent review of an excellent album from an excellent musician.
pmills1210 Film: Frosty the Snowman & Frosty Returns Cleverly, Pat found a double-feature DVD with an excellent and an excruciating film on it!
nedipooh Film: While You Were Sleeping Nedi squeaked in just after the deadline, but we're generous, so didn't berate her too much...
msmorvay Film: War of the Roses Ah, yes, such a classic, romantic movie. Perfect date film, right, Rae?
MajaFiggaz Music: Cult Status - Chief Kamachi The first and only hip-hop entry to the write-off right here, y'all. Thanks to MajaFiggaz for joining in, and keepin' it Philly.
bodashe Beauty: St. Ives Skin Firming Moisturizing Lotion for Dry Skin The first and only Beauty entry to the write-off right here, y'all. Beauty? Yeah, why not. Way to buck the trend!
HeleneKHoffman Music: Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell - Social Distortion Helene has quite an interesting style in this music review. Entertaining, for sure, and excellent.
jadzia66 Beauty: Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Natural Colloidal Oatmeal Another Beauty review? This is unprecedented. This is excellent! Well done, Cherie!
bonnieleigh Book: The Clan of the Cave Bear EXTRA POINTS for Bonnie, 'cause... um... I forgot to put her on the list. And because she did both reviews on books by the same author, which was great stuff. Yay, Bonnie! *guilty grin*
