About smjg

Random facts about me

Having graduated my BSc Mathematics and Computing with first class honours, I am now back at Loughborough doing a PhD, researching Computational Mathematics and Parallel Computing, the latter of which I'll probably be getting into once what I'm doing currently gets into the swing of working properly.

When I'm not at university, I live with what's left of my immediate family in the village of Pease Pottage, just outside Crawley.

For more info, check out my website linked above!

Random updates

17 January -- Has it really been a whole year since any of my updates were random?

4 January -- I've just gone through deleting those of my comments that are just the URLs of my write-off entries, now that the hosts have added me to their participant lists. I encourage all of you to do the same, to reduce the clutter on the comment pages.

23 August -- Another good move: Member Messages to the Epinions Community has finally found its way onto the Member Advice topics page so that people can find it! Also check out the new topics in this section.

26 May -- Discovered sleeper54's guest map the other day. It's rather unbalanced (sorry, very unbalanced) at the moment, hopefully this'll change....

19 May -- I've now been here for a year! Just archived my nitpicks in my anniversary editorial. Not that the issues I raised in my 10th epinion have been fixed....

14 May -- A week and a half ago I decided it was time to go out and buy a Game Boy Advance SP. Now I know that the design of the GBA cartridge isn't compatible with the Mega Memory Card. See the updated review for more on this issue.

21 Jan -- As some of you may have noticed, Epinions has finally started allowing hyperlinks in reviews! Though I do wonder why they decided to let them be made only to pages within Epinions. I've just gone through updating my reviews. So wherever I've mentioned a fellow product in one of my reviews, and have written a review of that product, you can now reach my review from there!

But as for external linking, there was a workaround, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. If any of you Epinions staff are reading this, please read the epinion I've linked to, particularly the "why?" section, before you plug any more holes in this arbitrary restriction.

Random orphaned items

Here are a few products/topics I've managed to find only by stumbling on reviews in them. Now, I wonder, what's happened to the real ways in, and how have they manage to hide from search results?

British TV
www.epinions.com itself (as if it needed a separate listing from the Member Centre topics)
Tales of Destiny, PlayStation game, a duplicate of this one yet has somehow acquired reviews in it.
