About speeddemon531

MY RATING SYSTEM...if you care...
Very Helpful-Exceeds the standards of a good review (if you're a teacher, we'll call these A , A or A- reviews).
Helpful-A good review. (B or C range)
Somewhat Helpful-Below the standards of a good review. (D)
Not Helpful-You wasted my f*cking time. (I think we all know where this is headed...
Off Topic-Off topic.

Not that it matters to anyone, but (in my very humble opinion) a Very Helpful review should be the right mix of personal opinion and general product knowledge. It should be well-written, paragraph structure, grammar and spelling need to be in place, and it should accurately SUMMARIZE (as opposed to detail in length) an album's strength or weaknesses (I say album because 95% of the reviews I rate are in the music category.)

Ways to lose points:
*constant misuse of the English language (don't use fifty cent words unless you know what those words mean-hello: rap reviewing community on Epinions)
*incorrect information regarding artist or album
*denigration of artist or album without a viable explanation. It's one thing to say something sucks, but a good review properly explains WHY it sucks.
*excessive spelling or grammatical errors.

I'm probably as non-biased as they come. I rate reviews highly by people I don't necessarily like because they're good writers. I downrate reviews by people who are my friends if I feel they're not up to snuff. Way too many people on this site follow a "herd" mentality or rubberstamp because they feel that's the quickest way to an advisor hat (and usually, they end up getting one too, but that's neither here nor there).

I take the time to read every review I rate in full, and attempt to leave comments whenever I'm moved to. If I give you a rating you take umbrage with, and you want to know why, e-mail me and I'll tell you. I'll be on the level with you as long as you're on the level with me. There are way too many people who take lower rates as a personal affront. My advice to you: take this site a LOT less seriously. There are more important things in this world than what I think of your writing.

And if I really don't like you, you'll know, because I'll stop reading your reviews entirely :)
