About SpookyMonkey
|
-- 4/4/08 - Yes, I will write more reviews. After I've finished being sick, moving, taking part in a wedding (not mine, thankfully) and finding the boxes with all my books in them. So be patient. --
-- My Epinions Mission Statement --
I believe that the product in question should never get in the way of the review I'm going to write. If a review of golf clubs needs to contain references to wrestling masks and intergalactic travel, then they're damn well going in there. A banal product doesn't need to have a banal review.
I'm also not going to write a ten-page review. I don't have a ten-page review attention span. If I do, there's a good chance I'll talk about eighteen topics, none of which will be what I've submitted as the subject of my epinion.
My reviews will contain crude language as I attempt to work my way around the new epinions censorship system. It was much easier back in the day.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q.Is that you in your profile picture?
A.Yes, I am yellow with a red mohawk. Jaundice is a biznatch.
Q. Are you going to post that picture of the monkey riding the T-Rex that you drew in that book you bought?
A. For lack of a scanner, no. Just imagine the most awesome thing in the world, and then double it and draw it in blue crayon. That's what it looks like.
Reviews that people have said sort-of nice things about:
Books:
Everything Men Know About Women - Alan Francis - Spookymonkey's tabula rasa of chauvinism and dinosaurs.
101 Uses for a Dead Cat - Simon Bond - Impotent feline rage and tasty roadkill.
Rant - Chuck Palahniuk - Obligatory nerd Palahniuk review.
Book of Bunny Suicides - Andy Riley - Rabbit mucilage.
Return of the Bunny Suicides - Andy Riley - Rabbit mucilage.. now in High-Def!
The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana - Umberto Eco - Postpartum depression from... poo?
Under the Net - Iris Murdoch - The poor, drunken, slothful daydreaming man's Joyce. Dogs are stolen, people are happy.
U.S! A Novel - Chris Bachelder - Exclamation! point! abuse! over! social! satire! and! multiple! assassinations!
Bear v. Shark - Chris Bachelder - Warning: Contains Bears. And Sharks.
The Man who Killed his Brother - Stephen Donaldson - Imagine Batman solving crimes drunk. And leaving Robin in the trunk of the batmobile.
Persepolis - Marjane Satrapi - The Iranian Revolution as told through a comic strip. Brilliance despite references to New Wave.
Three to See the King - Magnus Mills - Ahh! I can't hear you through the sound of the moral bludgeoning I'm receiving!
Keeping it in the family:
PalWalrus - OldWalrus is Oooooold. Not really. Provider of fine booze reviews and money when he gets beaten at poker.
Keinleben - New to epinions. Not new to being snarky. Also a fellow contributor to the 'Lose to Spookymonkey at Poker' fund.
Willmontu - Doesn't play poker. Probably owes me money anyway.
