I'm a 22 yr old computer programmer. and now, I will give you my discertation of how I rate epinions... like anyone cares, and how I would like to be rated.
When I read an epinion I really only look for a couple things... I'm usually not too harsh on people because most of the people here put a good amount of effort into their view on whatever they are reviewing, and it's not my job to make sure people write epinions the way I think they should be written. All I want is to see that it present points about the item people are expecting to see a review for. I've seen reviews that say "This thing I am reviewing bites, so I will talk about how cool this other thing is for a page and a half". Which no one cares about because they would be reading reviews about the other thing if that's what they were looking for. Also, I couldn't care less if your entire review is completely bashing the product without listing any benefits, as long as you support your arguments about the things you bash rather than the blanket statement " bites". In short, if you tell me a little something about the product and argue your point about the pros and cons, you can expect a HR from me. I don't care if I totally disagree with you and you trash my favorite thing in the world. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
If I was rated like that all the time, my Zelda review would be so much higher... but for some strange reason people like that redundant annoying game. *shrug* okay I vented.
