About SusanGranger
|
My background is Hollywood. My family - past and present - is in the movie-making business. I know how movies are made. My natural father, S. Sylvan Simon, was a director at M.G.M. and then head of production under Harry Cohn at Columbia Pictures. He produced films like "Born Yesterday" and "All the King's Men," and he died during the making of "From Here to Eternity." My step-father is Armand Deutsch, who was a producer at M.G.M. and did films like "Kind Lady, "Ambush," and Saddle the Wind."
Purely through nepotism, I became a child actress, appearing in "Salute to the Marines," ""Bab Bascomb," "Son of Lassie,""The Fuller Brush Man," "The Fuller Brush Girl," "Abbott & Costello in Hollywood," and others. Some of these credits are listed on the IMDB as "Susan Simon" or "Susan Stevens," a name I took for just one film. I "retired" from movies as a teenager and went to Mills College, where I studied journalism with Pierre Salinger. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
For the past 25 years, I have worked in radio, television, newspapers, and public relations. My movie reviews/features have been syndicated nationwide, with worldwide affiliates, and I have been affiliated with American Movie Classics. In addition, I lecture on film - "The Mythology and Magic of Hollywood,""A Critic Looks at Hollywood From the Inside/Out" and "Where Have All the Heroes Gone?" - to groups around the world. I am a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Assoc. and the On-Line Film Critics Society. My son, Don Granger, was v.p. of production at Paramount Pictures ("Saving Private Ryan," "Mission Impossible 2") and is now running Mutual Films, and my brother, Stephen (Deutsch) Simon, is an independent producer ("Somewhere in Time," "What Dreams May Come").
