About travelgall

Hi
My name is Chris. I'm a lover of travel and the more out of the way the better. Been to every country in Western Europe save Ireland for some reason (I'll end up there sometime). Visited the Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) Scandinavia, Southern Africa, South America (Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Panama, Guyana, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil and Costa Rica) The USA, Some of the islands in the Caribbean. My war zone tours have included Albania (under Communism) Lebanon and Northern Ireland (with the Army). I've also been to Cyprus, Malta, Gibraltar, Thailand, Indonesia and I'm off to Australia, Fiji and New Zealand when I get the time.
I also love any form of adventurous sport, especially rafting and surfing. I climb, Parachute, Scuba Dive and bungy jump occasionaly. I 'm also a big Rugby and Film (movie) watcher. I also play Polo and have a pretty lousy handicap.
I'm an avid history buff. I specialise in the Second World War, but I'm pretty good on most military history. I also read humour (yes I've spelt it right!), and political comment. My favourite military book is "Don't Cry for Me Sergeant Major" on the Falklands conflict, whilst "The Road to Serfdom" by Friedrick Hayeck is my top recommend for politics. I'm a huge sucker for P J O'Rourke because I love his wry look at travel. My Travel recommends include "Swahili for Beginners" and "No Sh1ting on the Toilet" by Peter Moore. I am libretarian and loathe government.
"For a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." Sir Winston S Churchill
"I am worried about an electorate that would vote themselves their neighbours money, thereby creating a set of drones or of idle extravagant wretches who live on the earnings of others". Senator William Patterson 1745-1806
