About vfreyer
|
It has been a while since I authored an opinion, but when I do write, these are the criteria by which I judge myself and others.
What I Like
- Cogent writing that shows me why the reviewer was interested in the product or service.
- An honest and thorough evaluation of an item's good and bad qualities. Every product is a compromise between time, materials, and quality. A well written review should help me understand them.
- Information that is only obtainable from first-hand experience. No matter how much you research, nothing beats having experience as a primary source.
What I Don't Like
- Reviews that are only opinions. In order for me to relate to an opinion I need to understand how the writer arrived at it.
- Plagiarism. I'm really not interested in a snippet from a travel article or excerpt from Consumer Reports. A rework of the top five existing reviews doesn't add any value either.
- Reviews that don't show how the reviewer interacted with the product or service. Too many reviews look like they were class assignments rather than personal experiences.
In Conclusion
Well, there it is. I won't be writing about things I haven't tried or done myself because if I can't add value I'm just wasting my time and yours.
I hope that you find my opinions useful, but if your opinion is different from mine, Great! Write it up and post it, because there are no wrong answers here. (Just bad ones!)
