I'm here to earn money to support the charity group Carrot of Hope in its efforts to find a cure for and assist people with post-traumatic stress.
I took ill with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after working for University of Phoenix (UoP). I originally joined Epinions solely to warn others about UoP's unethical and discriminatory practices. Since I joined, UoP has been exposed by the New York Times and the EEOC. Hopefully the lawsuits they are facing will get them to improve their way of doing business.
In a valley of 4 million people, one would think there would be a support group for individuals with PTSD. It turns out there is not. However, in my search for a group, I encountered Daily Strength, which is a website dedicated to creating support groups for everyone.
There is not a lot known about PTSD even though there are cases dating back to the pyramids. Until the war in Iraq, no one bothered to prioritize it for research. However, PTSD affects 12-20% of the population at any given time. Even though the Sidran Instute has a great website for information, there is a lot of information missing. We piece this information together in our support group at Daily Strength.
Members of the PTSD board at Daily Strength created Carrot of Hope to make certain this information was easily accessible and organized for the general public. The site now has information on service dogs, on crisis support, for family & friends and the latest news as well as researched contributions. We fill in the gaps for PTSD information. Most of the "standard" treatments for PTSD actually make it worse. We provide a successful alternative. Many call PTSD incurable. We provide a clear pathway to hope. Family & friends are neglected and have few places to turn for guidance. We do our best to help them understand. PTSDers feel lost and we provide them a carrot of hope.
PTSD leaves leaves most people disabled. When Carrot of Hope was started, I offered to contribute the only thing I have - time. When I noticed that my University of Phoenix review was earning funds, I realized that Epinions offered me a way to contribute more. So, now I write for Epinions, often about items that will also help individuals with PTSD. I encourage my friends, family and members of Daily Strength to join Epinions and support my efforts. The money this Epinions account earns goes straight to Carrot of Hope - every cent.
I also have two service dogs (in the picture above), which I trained. The longterm goal for Carrot of Hope is to build a treatment center to provide services for everyone with PTSD, even if they do not have insurance. Since PTSD frequently leads to agoraphobia, we also plan to train service dogs to help PTSDers stay mobile. You can read all about our take on PTSD by reading the article "Curing PTSD" on the Carrot of Hope website.
So, please check out all my reviews and get your friends to come by so that contributions increase even faster! I hope you'll add me to your Web of Trust, as this also helps. Thanks for your support!
Best wishes and a carrot of hope! :)
