I am a biologist and live and work in the beautiful state of California. I have a lot of hobbies--I've been an outdoor guide for a few years and enjoy backpacking, climbing, and day hiking. I've been on several trips to Alaska and hope to get up there again for another backpacking trip soon. Books are an obsession of mine--I read a variety of genres, but have always been a sci-fi fan. Currently, most of the books I read are contemporary fiction and non-fiction nature and science books. Some of my favorite authors and poets include Alice Walker, Marge Piercy, Wallace Stegner, Stephen J. Gould, and Robert A. Hienlien.

I also love to watch movies, particularly drama, foreign films, and (*blush*) action movies. Some of my favorite movies are Blue, The Hairdresser's Husband, The Lion in Winter, and of course ;) anything with Mel Gibson in it!
