A few things:
Put simply, I'm a 20 year old student going to the University of Florida. I listen to hip-hop, R&B, and the occasional jazz album here and there. My philosophy on what I like is simple: if I think it's good, I listen to it. I think that in a lot of instances, people tend to label artists and completely narrow their view based on that label. I think many of the writers have done a better job of giving more love to mainstream artists and their works, and I hope that trend continues; it'd be a shame to write off an album just because of who the artist is or what he/she represents. Along that same vein, I'm always trying to grow and develop as a writer/reviewer, so constructive criticism is welcome, whether it be via comment or email.
You all know the usual spiels about ratings and how people do them, so apply the same general standards to me and how I'll go about leaving ratings and the like. Beyond that, for album reviews I truly appreciate and like, I'll leave comments. If I agree with the content, then I'll say so, but if not, I'll let that be known as well, not to be offensive or anything, but simply to let my feelings be known on the album/essay in question. There are a lot of good reviewers on this site, and the ones that I regularly read from are shown on my web of trust.
As far as how often I write reviews, it's pretty sporadic; I don't write a set number of reviews per week or per month. If I'm listening to an album and the mood strikes me to write about it, I will.
Outside of general reviews, I'm also thinking about dropping a few essays, such as my own top 10 lists, maybe some on the hip-hop landscape as I see it, etc. I'd like some feedback/advice before I do, though, so as not to risk being repetitive and rehashing things that have been said before (not to say that my top 10 lists will be the same as everyone else; judging from the ones I've read, they won't be exact copies). Having said that, any advice (via email or comment) would be greatly appreciated.
Also, please check out my blog; I started it about two weeks ago, and I'll be adding a lot of my rants/raves about hip-hop there as opposed to here given the difficulties involved in posting reviews here. I'll still do reviews when the mood strikes me, but anything else music related will be on my blog, so be sure to check that out.
