Pros: Easy Resume Builder, Great Search Agent Cons: No Statistics on Employer Searches, No Contacts from Employers
Career Builder is one of the many job search websites I have employed while trying to find a job. Like most employment websites, Career Builder has good and bad features.
In my opinion, the most impressive feature of this site is the resume...
Pros: One-stop shopping allows searches of other job-search sites, Automatic Search Agents. Cons: Some repetition of jobs - Same jobs, just listed on different sites.
O.K, You've been working for the same company for years, and suddenly you end up on the street looking for another job. Or maybe you just can't take it any longer at your present company and you want to look at other opportunities. Or maybe you just hate...
Pros: good articles offering advice Cons: too many temp agency listings
Like Yahoo Careers, Career Builder offers advice on job hunting, cover letters, resumes, job interviews, and negotiating job offers. The site delves deeply into these topics, for example, in the job interviews section, there a links to five sites...
Pros: Great advice, prominent job search area Cons: Mega job search is not as far reaching as it seems
In addition to job search engine and resume posting, careerbuilder gives you access to tips and articles that can help to polish your skills and presentation to an employer. Why is this important? Job search is great, but your job search won't get you...
Pros: The mega search engine finds results from several various engines, good advice for newbies. Cons: Regular search engine not as useful as others, articles and tips are just the same old info.
This site did not impress me a great deal. I will agree it has a lot of information that is helpful to the new college graduate, or other persons who are not well-versed in the job hunting arena. However, the articles and tips are not anything that...
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY on CareerBuilder's RESUME LAUNCHER! You may get "more" than you bargained for! I looked at several resume launchers to get a head start on my job search and decided to go with CareerBuilder. It seemed to be ...
Look, the only reason I use Career Builder is because my local paper uses this as the clearing house for its online Employment section. The job search function is limited, not able to support the more technical queries such as non-IT Project Management...
As a result of this merger, the old Careerbuilder site is gone. The site they chose to keep online is Headhunter. If you type CareerBuilder.com in your browser, you will be directed to the Headhunter page. For the most part, see my review on Headhunter...

I saw an ad on television for careerbuilder and so therefore it caught my attention when I did a search and it came up online as a place I could help my fiance seek a job. I thought: sure, let's give it a try! First, you register with all by adding ...
I have not had a good experience with Career Builder at all! I receive spam by the thousands. If you have previously blocked companies from viewing your resume and contacting you, DO NOT change your resume in any way. The blocks are removed. That ...
Pros: the best overall features I have found so far Cons: it isn't specialized in biotechnology
Just after I finished my epinion on Monster and Career Path I checked out this website, now I regret the high ratings that I gave those two sites. This site has every option that I liked about both those websites plus a little more. Forget about...
I am business owner of 18 years. I began using Career Builder to post job offerings about two years ago. Months later in the relationship I was hard sold by a Career Builder telemarketer to buy a package of 13 job postings. Never once during the sales ...
Pros: great e-mailing service Cons: hope you don't mind daily e-mails
In my massive job hunt, I went to every site known to the internet world looking for a job. Eventually I lost track of which site I signed up for and what sites had my resume. I started getting all sorts of mail from places I didn't know existed (but...
An overall prosperous experience by bbuster1 ,Apr 17 '09
Career builder is a very helpful site. The search process has highs and lows. In most cases, though, the search is very accurate in providing jobs that closely match the job seeker's interests. Additionally, more high profile companies use this site than others.
Vast job database...too many "crap" jobs listed...need a filter. by apc53 ,Jul 07 '06
I like Career Builder...it's a good site with tons of jobs all across the country. However, I don't think they offer an option to filter out all the "work at home" and "mystery shopper" jobs. That's the only drawback.
Now allowing bogus postings by johnstrash1 ,Mar 25 '09
Apparently Career Builder has decided to allow scams to be posted. And from what is seems, they are doing it intentionally. Recently I have come across several postings that are presented like actual jobs but in reality are just trying to sell something, such as an expensive training course. Originally, there was an option to report these types of links to Career Builder, but they must have gotten so many and not cared that some don't even have the report link anymore. So at a time when people are desperate for jobs, Career Builder has chosen to take advantage of their users and intentionally provide bogus listings just so they can make a little more money. I highly recommend reading each posting very carefully and make sure who you are giving your informantion to. Either that, or find a better way to look for jobs.
Great if you like sales and insurance jobs. Others beware. by mrschrisc ,Oct 15 '09
So far a waste of time posting my resume, better to just search yourself. Have been posted for 2 months now, and all I get are insurance, sales and financial offers for jobs or self-employment garbage. I am clearly looking for something in Education or Foreign Language, or Non-Profit sector helping people. I believe these emails are just automatic and these people dont even bother to READ my resume. I have also gotten at least 2 scam jobs, one for processing packages that ship to you, you relabel, and some other scam job doing something stupid for a ridiculous amount of money.
Avoid like the Bubonic Plaque by marcus0263 ,Sep 09 '08
Career Builder is garbage, avoid at all cost. I made the mistake of paying for the premium resume service and received nothing but scams, work at home, out and out frauds (you know the bank transfer scam), not to mention a huge amount of Spam. I actually had to dump my email address I used for them due to the volume of Spam I received after joining their site.
Do yourself a favor and use respectable services like Monster, Dice, etc.
I purchased the professional resume service at Career Builder for $199. I was promised a professional resume in 2 1/2 weeks. The process took 6 weeks and was only completed because I was dilligent about follow up. I was given excuse after excuse and the responses by Career Builder were often patronizing. When I finally received the final product in an e-mail that said "Congratulations-the process is complete. Good luck with your job search", the final resume attached had no less than 8 errors-both grammatical and spelling.
I would not recommend Career Builder to anyone that is looking for a professional resume and professional service.
Career Builder - Bloats their web statistics by indexing jobs from free job boards by glozzies ,Jun 18 '09
I have had enough of career builder. I have posted job opportunities on allstar, canada-jobs etc and career builder has been indexing as their own.
They also require an email address before the job seeker is able to apply for the position.
Then a day later a career builder rep phones me to sell a job posting package, claiming they are one of the biggest job boards, with the highest web traffic and have broadest range of jobs.
OF COURSE! if you bloat your job board with stolen jobs posted on free sites then turn around and sell a job posting package!
Resume Distribution: Dont USE by kanishk ,Oct 26 '05
I used resume distribution service of careerbuilder prior to reading any review. Totally frustrated after seeing the results from careerbuilder, I searched for some website which provides reviews for the resume distribution services over internet. Then I found this forwardyourresume.com which has given a very good review of all services available now. No doubt careerbuilder in on No.8 out of 10.
I used CareerBuilder's Resume distribution service: Basic+3 additional locations+contact list of recruiters to whom my resume has been sent. Total cost was $50+15+15=80.
I selected three wise industries: Mfg/energy/Transportation and three wide functional areas: Mfg, R&D and Engineering.
And my resume was sent to only 145 recruiters. Thats it. They dont provide any information regarding the number of recruiters they have associated with the different industries or areas. When I called them , their representative said that they have such a large number that they cant show them. And their large number turns out to be mere 145 for me.
Please post my review so that it may save some other jobseeker from wasting money on this bogus/useless service.
Very enjoyable and successful. by tmumma88 ,May 13 '09
I have been on many job hunting sites, but this is definitely one of my top most liked. I really like how it is set up. However, there is a site I really enjoy, it is www.underwritingcrossing.com, it has been so helpful in educating me on different jobs, and how to obtain them.
thanks
Its free, but thats its only quality.... by asulca593 ,Mar 05 '06
Like Monster.com, CareerBuilder attempts to help people in their quest for suitable employment. It is my belief, however, they are more concerned about bringing money in rather than running a quality job search web site.
My review of this web site is very similar to that of Monster. I have had very few actual legitimate job search results when running their search agents. More and more, it has become clogged with "get rich quick" and "work from home" results that end up frustrating people. Often times, I get legitimate results, but they are in no way remotely relevant to what I am looking for. For example, I am searching for an IT position, but I often get results for an accountant or engineering positions. I don't even bother looking at the search agent I get in my email anymore.
I have had more and better luck using all the web-based local newspaper sites than I have using CareerBuilder.
On one hand, it is free, so there's no money to lose. But you will lose a lot of time trying to find any good results from CareerBuilder. Don't waste your time.
