The package vacations through expedia really are the best value on the market.
When I traveled to New York City I did a lot of shopping around and discovered that a package deal through expedia was by leaps and bounds the best deal out there....

frustrating, terrible
by akg523 ,Jan 20 '07
Expedia seems to work fine... until there's a change in plans. We recently booked a flight through Expedia, and when Delta cancelled the last leg of our itinerary, Expedia took 2 months to notify us. When they did notify us - 4 days prior to departure - they still sent us the wrong itinerary. Their error caused us to have to stay overnight in Atlanta at short notice... with 2 small children and only our carry-on luggage. When we insisted that Expedia at least cover our hotel expense, they did, but put us in the shabbiest, cheapest, dirtiest hotel they had available. They have remarkably poor customer service, and rampant incompetence.

Beware of Expedia!
by mygirlsiii ,Nov 05 '03
We recently purchased a trip from Expedia to Ft. Lauderdale that included air, hotel & car. Unknown to us, the airline tickets that Expedia issued for a specific flight on USAir, were nothing more than standby tickets. We thought we were purchasing confirmed seats on a specific flight. This was not the case. USAir oversold the flight and since our tickets were not confirmed, we risked being bumped. After much begging and pleading, USAir found three passengers willing to take the next flight so we could get on this flight. Also because our tickets were not confirmed, our luggage never made it on the flight, resulting in our entire first day of our three day vacation spent tracking our luggage, which showed up eight hours after we did. Expedia customer service was not helpful at all and could offer no valid explanation or remedy. I would caution others to beware of buying package trips from Expedia. Make sure you know what kind of ticket you are going to get before you make the purchase. In the past I have purchased trips from Travelocity and not had any problems.

Coupon not refunded on a canceled trip
by igsa2006 ,Dec 28 '07
On an Expedia trip to Vegas, we wound up paying for a fuel surcharge on a tour. We were not told about this and were delayed for several hours while we protested the charge with Expedia. Expedia made amends by giving us a $200 coupon. We used the coupon a trip to Yosemite. However with heavy rains and road closings, we opted to change plans. When we tried to cancel the trip, we were told that the coupon would not be refunded. We were not told of this rule and despite our protests, they refused to refund our coupon. So we are not using Expedia ever again and would highly recommend that people stay away from Expedia.

reservation process is fine; to change or cancel is next to impossible
by boethius2 ,Mar 10 '07
Good for checking fares and schedules of several airlines at once. Absolutely terrible if you need to cancel or change a ticket. That fact alone makes the service one that you should avoid.

They Stole from Me
by comparably ,Aug 28 '09
AWFUL. An airline cancelled my flight, but would not refund my money, then expedia would not refund my money, both blamed eath other and I got shafted. Do not use these guys, once they have your credit card number they do not care about you. Go directly to the airline or use a real travel agent like Amercian Express. The sole purpose of Expedia is so that no company will have to take blame when a flight goes bad. Plus there customer service people can't speak English.

Expedia sucks, in many ways.
by dougieholmes ,May 12 '06
Expedia sucks and I'll tell you why.
Their rates are often higher than what you can find on your own, even though they give the illusion their prices are somehow a bargain.
Once you've purchased you have very little re-course for change. Book with a regular travel agent and they'll be much more helpful.
Contacting Expedia in case something goes wrong and you'll soon find how little support their truly is.
One example of price differences?
Expedia offering a deal on car rentals quoted me $52/day. On my own I simply called Enterprise directly and got a car for $32/day. Thanks Expedia.

Great service
by tfulop ,Feb 02 '07
Excellent service. Great price as well easy to book and infant 10% price booking available. Orbitz and Cheaptickets did not reflect 10% for infant booking.
Highly recommended.

Read the Cancellation Policy .You also need to verify the spelling of names and dates.
by chuching123 ,Sep 21 '07
The best way to secure your booking is to create an account(no fee)under your name so that customer care will be able to pull up a record once you call to confirm an info. For flights, it is best not to save an itinerary and wait for a couple of hours or days before booking because prices are subject to change from time to time-it could change while you're in the process of booking it. As for hotels, choose the one that's prepaid because its 100 percent guaranteed.Don't forget to read the cancellation policy very well.If you're worried, especially for Vacation packages, you might wanna consider ordering an insurance.
If in doubt, call 800-3973342 and seek help from a travel agent to book your reservation.

Book with the airline instead
by digsblues ,Aug 12 '07
Price was okay. Customer service was HORRIBLE. I stayed on the telephone over an hour waiting to get problem solved, all the while listening to the same wedding march (Canon in D). The representative put me on hold and never returned. I called back a second time, and the rep said she couldn't help me. By the way, their customer service center is in India.

So awful I will never use them again.
by snowdiva ,Nov 28 '04
In May 04 my husband booked a luxury vacation through Expedia for 12 days in BVI. We bought $89.00 worth of travel insurance "just in case." As our departure date drew close (Nov 20, 04) we discovered, much to our dismay that we had to postpone due to a very ill employee of ours.We called Expedia in Oct 04 to reschedule. We were even more dismayed to hear from a very rude Expedia agent that she could not reschedule and our so called "insurance" was worth only about a 20 dollar refund. It took us 3 weeks of dealing with rude expedia agents to finally realize, as they put it "we are SOL."
If it weren't for the kindness of an agent at Contential Airlines and a reservations person at Bitter End Yacht Club (thank you, Liza) I doubt we would go at all. Expedia is ok for just checking flight times but I will purchase elsewhere in the future.
