I have been along time costumer of AMS, about three years, and to this day I have never had any real problems with AMS. All orders that I have received have been received within a few days of order, 99.9% of my orders have been correct, and all in perfect condition. The only complaint that I would have to give is, AMS has a set of AKG K240m headphones labeled incorrectly on their website, I ordered them, and then had to return them, they gave me no problems on the return. I told AMS that the headphones where labeled wrong on their website and to this day they have not corrected the problem. It's been about two months, otherwise I love AMS.

I was very disappointed in the response I got when I informed American Musical Supply that a product I received from them was defective. I only had the item for 4 months and it ended up being broken from the time I had received it from American Musical Supply. It wasn't confirmed to be malfunctioning until 3 months after receiving it during regular use where once again it was malfunctioning. Instead of readily taking the unit back and exchanging it for another one their customer service told me to deal directly with the manufacturer (which we all know ends up being a total inconvenience). This isn't a way to keep your customers American Musical Supply! When an item has issues in such a short period time you should be willing to work with your customers to make sure they are satisfied with the least amount of inconvenience to them. I shopped through you for the past 12 years + because I thought you were a stand up company.

Phone service connects you immediately to a real person and they answer your question or connect you with someone who can immediately. No automated call waiting. I have made some major purchases with no deficiencies. Return policy is excellent and easy. No hassle with returning a guitar with case and getting my money back just because I had changed my mind on the product. Payment plan is excellent. No credit card required to buy there products, just a quick credit check takes 2 minutes and your approved for 3 or 5 payment plan depending on the product with no interest rate. You pay for what the product is priced at. Product ships to you in 3-5 days fedex. No delays. No shipping or tax on higher priced products. Product always shipped in excellent condition with major packaging to protect. If you are going to buy musical anything on line, use American Music Supply. There prices are comparitive to other online music stores and worth it if you have to pay a little more just because of the excellent service. AMS is the best.

They make it seem like you can buy any item using their 5 payment plan, yet what you don't find out until actually ordering is that they want to run a credit report on you before they will actually ship the item(s). What makes this assinine is that they also have a "3 payment plan" that doesn't require a credit check. You can only use either payment plan with a valid credit card, so it makes absolutely no sense why they would make the rules for 5 payment different than for the 3 payment. Also most of the equipment they sell are less desirable (i.e. ugly colors, bottom of the line gear, etc) and even that is often out of stock for weeks or months at a time. As an experienced musician, my advice would be save up and buy from a better retailer (Musician's Friend, etc). You will get as good or better price, a much better choice of gear, and no hassle if you want to return an item.
I have made several purchases from AMS. Always good selection and stock, great customer service (and open 24 hours), and the best website for making purchases. Furthermore, their techs know their stuff and have been able to provide me the information I need. No problems with what I have received. Highly recommended.
Not good, in 2 words. Paid for an item up front to be shipped when it came in stock. Checked the web site a couple days later; "Item in stock ships today." My order status read on back order. After asking why my order showed "Item on backorder" while the site said "ready to ship" I received the following email. "All the in stock items will ship out and the back order Items will ship out when they come back in stock." Uh, What? Then called to inquire. Said they would ship it and reinstate the order. Checked later, my order was marked "On Backorder" again. I withdrew my money. At no time could any of the 3 different cust. service people I spoke with explain what was going on. This is not good business practice where I come from. I'll take my music business elsewhere, thank you.

Bought two Gator G212A cases. Arrived ... they looked like they had been dragged all the way from Jersey. The cardboard was ripped and the cases were sticking out of the boxes - damaged, scrapped. No way did Fedex do this! Called and complained. They were arrogant and unapologetic. To top it off ... they shipped to my door but did not even offer pickup. Threatened them with a complaint and they just laughed and said go ahead. Week later still waiting for return labels. Last time I buy from them. Not recommended at all.

Today, I was going to purchase a casio piano for my son. AMS has it for $129.00. Target has the same keyboard for $95.00. I e-mailed AMS all the information needed for the price match guarantee. To my surprise they refused to honor the Target price because they said that it was "too low" and they could not sell it to me for that price. When I called them they repeated the same reason to me. Now we are talking about a reputable store that has the product on sale for in store delivery. I have ordered from AMS in the past and have never had a problem. They need to change their price match guarantee to say that "they have the right not to match price if they do not want to."

I ordered an Epiphone Les Paul Custom 50th Anniversary in B-Stock to save some money. B-Stock is supposed to be less than perfect, such as a floor demo model that has a little wear but carries the full manufacturers warranty. The web site was easy to use, and their interest free 3 payment plan made the purchase easy. The guitar arrived today and it was in perfect shape. I can find no flaws. I contacted customer service just to find out exactly what the difference was in New and B-Stock and they told me there were no more B-Stocks so they sent me a new one. I paid B-Stock price, which was lower. The whole transaction was perfect. I ordered the guitar Monday, and I'm playing it today (Thursday, same week). I even changed my order just before shipping and I found their customer service to be great. No complaints. This is my second purchase from them, and will not be my last.

I've shopped with American Musical for years and liked them until today, when I found out I was a "bad return customer". They advertise that they have "the best return policy in the business" with a 45 day return and "We allow you to return almost any product for any reason." What they don't tell you is if you actually believe what they say and end up returning things too many times, you will be banned from returning anything at all! I got banned from making returns even though the truth is I also bought and kept lots and lots of stuff from them. They make it sound like they want you to be able to try things to make sure you get exactly what you want. That's what I did. I ordered hoping I had picked the right thing, but we all know that unless you try the gear there's no way to be sure. So I returned or exchanged according to their policy. And what did I get for it? Blacklisted! There's too many other good companies to do business with. I will not be ordering from them again!

I have used AMS for over a decade now. Since before the wide usage of the internet. I have purchased almost everything via the 3 or 5 payment plan. Yes they run your credit, because they give you the item before its paid off, duh. I have never had issues with their return policy, no issues at all. And any company will stop doing business with you if you return too much stuff; double duh. Same great cstmr service as the others, they always address me by my name and make me feel like a valued custmr. I will continue doing business with them until I stop playing guitar. OBTW just purchased another guitar from them (this make 8, and all have been the 5 payment plan)

I have shopped with American Music Supply just twice and they have some of the best services I have ever experienced. I even bought an item that I latter needed to return for some reason and they sent a replacement even before I sent the defected item back to them and I am sold just for that kind of service.
I have bought stuff from Bose before where an equalizer they sent me wasn't good so I had to return it and that was not the kind of service I got from Bose.

The prices are decent, but when I attempted to return some George L's cable connectors that I had not even opened (were the wrong size), they would not take them back stating some assinine policy that they do not accept returns on guitar parts. Their emails responses to me were always wrong (they would always say that they do not accept open items for 'guitar parts', even though I told them that the package was still sealed!) and there was no flexibility on their part. A crappy policy and bad business over $24 connectors!
I should have bought from Musician's Friend or Guitar Center like I usually do, they have a no hassle return policy. I know because I had to use it once and there were no questions asked. That is why I will continue to buy from MF and GC and not from AMS! IF YOU WANT THE SECURITY OF KNOWING THAT YOU CAN RETURN SOMETHING HASSLE FREE, THEN DON'T BUY FROM AMS!

This is absolutely the worst online buying experience I've ever had. Maybe I shouldn't say buying experience, because while they have my money my guitar has not shown up in spite of promises of next day shipping, its been several days after the promised delivery date and nobody can give me a straight answer when I call. The people are sometimes very rude, unwilling to go an extra inch, let alone a mile, to help straighten out a problem with a dissatisfied customer. They tried to charge me twice and would have ($1500 guitar!!!!!) if I had the available balance left on my card- I know because they called to say my card was declined- after they already charged it!!
DO NOT use this company. Instead, try samedaymusic.com- I've never had a bad experience with them after many orders.
I found a Jaguar Bass for $339.00 cheaper on another big name stores website. I submitted it to them via the Price match and was denied because they didnt offer a free set of strings. This is bogus first there is no mention of free strings anywhere on there site. second strings are $18.00. That still means that the other site is $303.00 cheaper. The shouldn't offer the price match if they aren't going to honor it.

I have been shopping with AMS for years. One warning, though. DO NOT buy anything on the "Non-factory sealed blowout or dent and scratch list. I bought a Behringer bass combo amp from the "Non-factory sealed blowout" list figuring it might have a few minor dents and dings from being a demo item. NOT!!! Not only was the cabinet broken with several broken parts - but it was obvious the amp had been stripped for parts - probably to fix other items. It was JUNK !!! Customer service never answered any of my inquiries, so I at last contacted Behringer and they graciously replaced the amp with no hassle whatever - just the cost of shipping ($124.00) so my discount amp cost as much as a new one - 4 months later!! Rating summary: new items 3*** (if they have it in stock!!), customer service minus 5*****, Behringer service 10**********!!! Buy new items only from AMS !!!!!

These guys are just crooked. I ordered a specific bass from online and they sent me some other bass guitar-- nothing like I wanted. They just decided to substitute the order rather than telling me they did have any more in stock. Well, I called them and they agreed to take back the bass -- mind you, the invoice had the correct item listed, but they sent something else. I sent it back and after they got it back they sent a letter saying the item I wanted was no longer in stock. So I expect a credit back on my credit card, right?! Well, hell no, not with these skeezy bastards.
Long story short-- I've had to call and call and each time I'm promised I'll get a credit back on my card. Finally I called the credit card company and gave them all info, even the UPS tracking numbers. What a hassle. I'm still waiting to get my money back. take some advice from someone who has done a lot of shopping on the net, stay away from these greedy theives. They do not operate in an ethical manner and do not deserve the praise they get.

Excellent service, I accidentally clicked the single pay system on my order and within minutes the online chat representative helped me change it. They have a 90 day same as cash for anybody with a credit card, which I love. I ordered one guitar Ibanez rg1570 which came with an Ibanez case and was double boxed they also supplied tracking numbers. I ordered one amp head and one amp cabinet at the same time.I cannot say the same for their competition musicians friend, I filled out a credit app and was rejected by them and I also noticed that sometimes musicians friend prices are higher and shipping is higher on the heavier items. All in all american musical supply is cheaper on item prices and shipping prices, has excellent service, and grants a 3 payment system to anyone with a credit card. Now you know why I spent 1500 with them. The only negative I have to say about them is the pictures need to be more detailed and from different angles and lighting.

Since you asked.... I am relieved that I did not buy the ~ $4000 Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty guitar. I expect that for six-hundred dollars that I was going to get a brand new guitar (as opposed to a used and/or refurbished one). The guitar I received had many surface scratches and had worn paint on the thigh arch area. (When I bought my $200 dollar Fender Squire, from Guitar Center,it was perfect! Brand new with no scratches anywhere.) I do not want to go through the headache of shipping the guitar back to American Musical. I am content with possessing a 7-string guitar.
