Barnes & Noble is a great place to shop

I shop Barnes & Noble.Com all the time.They have many books and magazines to choose from.They have their own children's section,magazine section,game section.They even have their very own star bucks in the store so they can get something warm to drink while they read.The prices are reasonable,and fair.The customer service,delivery speed,order accuracy,and most of all the over all satisfaction is always great.

Forget buying online

It's faster and probably less frustrating to walk in a real store than to order from them online. I ordered the box set for Lemony Snickets, The Trouble Begins on 12-30-04. Stated it usually ships in 24 hrs and then when checking account later said it would ship on 1-17-04. This has been the same experience with their so called "free shipping" everytime. It's obvious they give these customers last priority even though they spend the $$$ to take advantage of free shipping offers.
My advice, buy from another seller or walk in a store and make your purchase. Save yourself the frustration.
Update: 1/17/04 and still not shipped. This is positively the worst service I have experienced online from ANY seller.

Save yourself the grief and shop somewhere else

I ordered one book one October 22, and choose the standard shipping. BIG MISTAKE! I was told from barnes and noble that the item had shipped on October 23 and that it would arrive in 3 to 8 days. LIARS! I just got the book yesterday, November 12. I called the post office to ask what took so long and they told me that barnes and nobles didnt ship the book until November 5. I couldnt believe a name as high as barnes and noble would have such horrible service. If you want your book sometime this month, do not shop here.

Ordering through B&N was simple, quick and efficient, - and the delivery of the product was timely. I used a gift certificate that was several months old, and it worked without a hitch.

The worst experience in my life while attempting to purchase a book.

The first impression is often a lasting one; I went to B&N.com to purchase a reference book and was given three prices... the first was the b&N store price, second was the on-line price and last was the MEMBER price. I decided to become a CLUB-MEMBER and enjoy the " discounted member rate" after joining I was notified I could not order the book I needed until I received the MEMBER #. Three days later I go to purchase the book and there is only two prices.. regular price and " discounted MEMBER price" what BS. Call customer service and was informed they held the right to change prices as they see fit..and MS. MAVIS (the customer service manager) also stated that they have changed the prices during check-out process. I will not shop and do not recommend anyone shop B&N or their affiliates.

There are better books on the market than this one

This book was a good overview of applying to dental school but missed many of the intricate details of successfully applying. As a pre-dental counsellor at UCLA, I can say that much of the information in this book can be found on the internet. For a more comprehensive guide, try the ultimate dental school guide by aly kanani at pre-dental.com As a more experienced predental advisor, his book is much more useful.

The worse, items not shipped. No gifts to give!

The worse! I placed an order for 11 items on Dec. 3. One item was a pre sale and after I placed the order I realized they were not going to send my entire order until Dec. 14. So I canceled the pre sale item. I contacted customer service via email and was told my order would be shipped shortly. Two days later I wrote again and was told my order would be expedited. Dec. 14, the day everything was to be sent to begin with, still no shipment! Contacted by phone and was told not only was my order not going to be shipped on time, but one item is no longer available. The customer service rep. refused to let me talk to a supervisor but after an hour on the phone she told me all my items were located and they would be shipped out that evening. Dec. 15 and still no shipment scheduled. Finally contacted a supervisor who is trying to get my items shipped, but order status now says Dec. 28 for shipment. Worse experience ever. Avoid at all cost. They lie through their teeth. Will be hearing from BBB! .

This is the greatest store on Earth! I would live there if I could. I'm happy with the coffee and endless reading supply.The staff is really nice and friendly. Barnes and Noble has almost every book I've read, I like it that it has all types of books for adults,children,teens,etc.

Barnes and Nobles is a great bookstore. If they do not have it .... they will order it. The variety is great. I am always amazed at the selection of books available in their bargain book area. I usually wait to buy my hardbacks in that section since they are often 1/5 the original price. The only problem that you occasionally experience is lack of sales staff at the checkout counters.

Good for what they have; poor for overall selection

Barnes and Noble does not, in any way, shape or form, compare to Amazon.com. Amazon.com endeavors to list all titles of all publishers; Barnes and Noble refuses to list or carry the titles of publishers who do not accede to Barnes and Noble's terms for buying books from those publishers. Their site does not give a true picture of what is available as opposed to that of Amazon. Moreover, Barnes and Noble's data base search is incomparable to that of Amazon.com. While Barnes and Noble is a good retail bookseller, their internet site is vastly inferior to that of Amazon.com.

Great overall experience

I had nothing but the best experience at Barnes and Noble. I purchased many books from the online store, and I have to say, my membership paid a lot. They send good coupons via e-mail. Also, their featured used books seller ( I guess it's called textbook center) is more than awesome. I could not tell the books were used, they were in perfect condition, great price, and super free shipping. I actually like this seller more than Barnes and Noble itself.

I placed an order on Cyber-Monday (November 30, 2009)for 2 copies of the same book that were on sale at half price. The website stated the book was currently shipping in 1-2 weeks. I chose standard shipping and hoped to have it by Christmas, but if not, no problem. I received an email just over 48 hours later telling me my order was cancelled as they were unable to fulfill my order. They were even nice enough to not charge my card. Gee, Thanks Barnes and Noble. Now when I go and try and order the book, it costs more (obviously), and it says the book is out of stock, but will be shipping Dec 21, 2009. Why was the order cancelled? Why not ship them to me on Dec 21, at the price they were sold? Why is this Legal?!

RUDE, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. NEVER AGAIN

My husband bought a book for a state licensing exam that was recommended by the B & N salesperson. It turned out that it was inappropriate for the exam as the exam changed and the book was outdated. Since he had no receipt, they did not offer a credit. MORE SIGNIFICANTLY THEY WRE RUDE, ABRUPT AND TOTALLY NON-EMPATHETIC. They would not acknowledge any culpability. I live in the neighborhood for 30 years and am a Senior Citiizen. I will never shop at this Lincoln Center store again or at any Barnes and Noble for that matter.

NEVER AGAIN!

Yikes! B&N.com has the craziest cancellation policy! I ordered a book this morning at 10am for same day delivery (i absolutely have to have it by tomorrow for a trip i'm taking). By 2pm it still had not shipped so i called to cancel, figuring I can just run to the store. The "customer service" rep told me that my card had already been charged even though the order didn't ship so she can't cancel. Huh? I read her the policy on the reciept that clearly states that "your card won't be charged until the order ships." She then said that my order wasn't really charged, but more like authorized. Exuse me? I said to her, if my order wasn't really charged, and the book didn't ship, why can't you just hit delete delete delete? She said: "no dot com will let you cancel an order once you've placed it." Hrrrmph...I guess they have to make up a lot of fibs to get irate customers off their backs.

Non-delivery and no response from customer service.

We ordered several weeks ago and have yet to receive our items overseas in Japan. Since Japan has delivery 7 days a week through the post offices and couriers - the business day exceptions do not apply here. We had our items shipped airmail and thus, the should arrive in 1-2 weeks max. Japan's postal service is efficient and among the best in the world. Once an item enters the system, it is delivered in 2-3 days. Now, B&N have been contacted twice and have yet to respond to our inquiries. Most recently, we requested a refund as two items were texts that need to be used in a course starting soon. Still, no apology and no reply. We are at a loss and most certainly will never order from their online store again; nor use their stores when back in the US. I don't know how businesses stay afloat with such poor customer service.
