Good selection, but SLOW turnaround time, and getting slower.

by farseer_dt1 , Jul 20 '05
I have been with Blockbuster about 3 months now. When it first started, it was pretty good, had an average movie turn around time of about 5 days. Watch a movie send it back and receive new one for one you sent back in 5 days. When getting 3 out at a ...

Well I thought the 2 free rentals in store would be great but... My movies ordered online didn't make it worth while. I tried for two months to get Disc 3 in a series (Star Trek Voyager) They kept shipping the wrong discs. They e-mailed the correct ...

Blockbuster service seems to be going down hill

by inahaz , Oct 22 '04
2 months ago, we subscribed to Blockbuster's online movie rental service (similar to Netflix). Service was initally good and we were able to turn 3 movies around each week (i.e. watch 3 on the weekend, send them back on Monday and get the new batch on ...

SLOW website and the worst customer service!
by zack65 ,Mar 05 '07
New website is incredibly SLOW and has far less features than the old one. Obvious things the customer would like are missing. Recommendations fall on deaf ears or take literally months to appear. I also love that they claim you need to use MS Explorer for it to work well like all those Apple, AOL, and Mozilla users are customers that they don't need! :-/ (BTW it doesn't help at all, I tried.) Also they have the worst customer service on the planet. Even eBay looks good compared to these guys. They don't even read your emails before responding back with some cut and pasted obvious BS about how they care. They list movies as available and then they never are. (Four times running on one of them now.) Finally they brag that you can return the movies to there stores but lookout for late fees and expect it to take twice as long for the movie to show up as returned. Short the stock; the people running this company are beyond clueless.

Don't waste your time!
by palkovics ,Oct 31 '04
I hate to write a bad review, but this calls for one. I recently tried out the Blockbuster Entertainment Online Store for DVD rentals. I signed up, picked my movies, and waited. Well it took over a week to get two movies, which were not my first pick! I sent them back after viewing in the prepaid envelope. It then took another week for them to receive them, enter them in their inventory and send out the next in-stock items on my list. After a month of this, I canceled my membership.

AVOID BLOCKBUSTER!!!! 2-week trial is not worth the hassle
by rnicholas ,Oct 22 '04
I am a member of Netflix but signed up for the 2-week free trial with Blockbuster. Due to the long time it took to receive and return movies (3-4 days each way for Blockbuster as opposed to 1-2 days for Netflix) I canceled my membership. However after canceling and getting an email confirmation of my cancellation, they still sent me two more movies. I promptly returned these movies as soon as I got them, however Blockbuster still charged my credit card $20.99 for each movie, saying they never received the movies. When I called to complain, I couldn't get through, all I got was the busy signal. I sent two complaints to customer service on the website, and they finally refunded me $18 for each, keeping $2.99 as a "restocking fee"... I complained again, and have been told this restocking fee will be refunded, however I still have not seen this refund... To summarize, avoid Blockbuster, they are slow and their customer service is horrible. Stick with Netflix. It might be a little more expensive, but it is worth it due to the faster service.

Don't waste your time!
by scribe1964 ,Oct 05 '04
I tried the Blockbuster Online trial membership and it was pretty much a disaster. I wanted 7 movies that Netflix doesn't carry, but only 2 were actually in stock. In one case, their website said the DVD was in, but they kept passing it up and shipping my next DVD. When I emailed them about this, they replied that sometimes their DVDs show as in stock when they really aren't there. Sounds like a pretty major bug to me! I finally did get that DVD -- it arrived broken. Then they sent me another copy -- which also arrived broken! In addition, the shipping typically took a day or two longer than Netflix. Whatever you do, stay away from Blockbuster online!

I think they deliberately delay shipping to save cost - Not fair!
by rajateli ,Jan 13 '07
I think their policy of "shipping next DVD the next business day, once previous DVD is returned in store" is a bluff. I returned the DVD in store, had 5 DVD's in queue (all showing "Available" status) and yet they did not ship out the next one till next 3 business days. Shipping takes another 3 business days, so effectively I received 1 DVD by mail in about 2 weeks. I don't think that subscription is worth the wait, so am cancelling my membership and will try out netflix now. Blockbuster customer care sucks, no one ever picks up the phone. Cust support by EMail is a lengthy process and the representation can easily fool you in initial 2-3 mails and you would lose 1-2 days in that only, trying to explain the problem. Blockbuster is not recommended!

Not as advertised
by jm123 ,Jan 29 '07
Since joining the Total Access plan three months ago, things have not gone the way BB advertises, i.e., when I return movies to the store new movies are not shipped the next business day. The first few times I contacted customer service they gave me unrelated answers such as I had too many sets in my queue. I followed all their recommendations, and nothing changed. The last time I complained, customer service told me that movies are released from the queue when you turn in a disc at the store, but it's not reflected in the queue. Why, then, is it days (not next day as advertised) before I receive the email saying the disc has been shipped? I think a consumer advocacy group should look into their claims. The Total Access idea is great, being able to get more discs from the store, but they should be more truthful about how things really work.

Netflix is in trouble
by tweetjj ,Dec 01 '06
I have been a Netflix user in the past, but switched to Blockbuster Online because of the free game coupons and because I had to wait too long to get new releases from Netflix. Now with this new total access plan from BB I can't understand why anyone would stay with NF. Since I can return the DVD's to the local BB I get 3 new DVD's every 3-4 days. I also get 3 free rentals at the BB. Now I get 6 DVD's every 3-4 days. I also get two free game rentals a month. I love to read how others try to argue that Netflix's program can be better than BB. Its not even close in my mind. But I do thank Netflix for giving BB some competition. But I don't see how they will stay in business long with this new total access plan.

Dump them and join Netflix
by steve6451 ,Nov 05 '04
I decided to try Blockbuster since they lowered the price. I have cancelled the service in less than two weeks.

Getting the first three DVDs was easy. You get two coupons per month for in store rentals. No problems there.

The first movie returned took five days to register with Blockbuster. When I use Netflix, there is a 2-3 day turnaround on getting the DVDs once I drop them in the mail. With Blockbuster it is more than a week.

A major problem has been the DVDs themselves. I have a portable Panasonic player and the DVD's I had left did not work. I kept getting errors. I thought the player was broken, but it is only the Blockbuster DVDs. I requested a replacement and had the same problem. Maybe they take all the store rejects and use them for the online service.

Due to the major playing problem and the long wait, I cancelled. With Netflix, they let you know they got the returns, both by e-mail and when you log on. With Blockbuster, nothing.
