Needing to rent a car from the Baltimore/Washington D.C Airport (BWI), I looked around on the internet at the different rental agencies working out of the airport. Seeking just a basic car, and looking to save a little money, I was able to quickly ...
I am traveling once again! I have come to loath traveling, a pastime I used to adore; the world political situation has made travel, even national travel, more of a hassle than its worth. Be that as it may I found myself once again needing to ...
Like this week, I came to Westborough, Massachusetts and rented a car from Dollar as they were the cheapest. Even though this trip was for business purposes and my company was going to reimburse me, I chose to go with this cheap rental company. Well ...
This was by far the worse car rental experience I had... EVER!!! We reserved a full size car on line store. No problems there. The car was shown as reserved, a full size Taurus or Chrysler. I then went to pick up the car Norfolk, VA airport (after ...
After flying on a 5 hour flight from Atlanta, we arrived to Ontario, California, at around 7pm PST. We were tired, and went out to wait for the bus. We then took the 6 minute bus ride to the rental car complex. We got in, and it was very quiet. We went ...
I recently rented a car from Dollar at the Albuquerque airport. I had gone through the registration process online before hand and was given an estimate of $153.71 for 4 days. As I always do, I had opted not to get additional insurance. When I arrived in ...
This is the WORST experience we've ever had! After have the car for a week, we returned it and waited for the inspection. The employee conducting the inspection did a check, signed-off that there were no damages, and sent us on our way. About 3 weeks ...
After 23 hours travelling the last thing I needed was the Dollar experience in Phoenix. On a very hot night I queued for about 25 minutes before getting to a desk. I was offered everything under the sun except the car I had already paid for some weeks ...
This is the worst car rental experience I've had in 35 years. When I got to the Dollar desk only one person was attending at 9:45 a.m. at the airport in San Francisco. There were nine persons in front of me. A second clerk took came to ...
I rented a car for a week in Jackson Hole WY. This was the worst choice for a rental company I've ever made - I don't know if this is relevant for just this one location or it's like this in every city but it seems now this company has quite a few bad ...
Worst car rental experience ever. I made the reservation on Dollar's web site for an SUV 2 months in advance for the Denver Airport and even called the day before arrival to re-confirm. Upon arrival at the Denver Airport Dollar Rental Counter there was a ...
Good service, friendly staff at SFO by blue_tiger ,Aug 04 '04
I had a good experience with Dollar at SFO International. The service was professional, and that includes directions from the staff. My only gripe is that the lines are so long--for all the car counters--at San Francisco.
I am a little behind the times and brought tapes, not CDs, to listen to on the drive up to Oregon and back. The car I had picked out, a budget-minded Isuzu, did not have a tape player, but they were happy to find me another model that did.
DO NOT USE DOLLAR RENT-A-CAR- EVER! by arntouch ,Dec 26 '06
WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER!!! THEY EVEN SENT US TO COLLECTIONS WHEN WE ARGUED THE BILL.
We took pictures as proof of the condition of the car upon pickup because it was dirty on the outside and windy/dusty outside preventing a detailed inspection. When we returned it, they claimed we damaged the vehicle. We said we had photos. They said they would contact us. They send one (1) letter. We called twice and never heard from the again UNTIL we received a letter from Collections FOUR MONTHS LATER! Great customer service. I will never rent from Dollar-Rent-A-Car again and I hope you do not either!
Good prices, cars as promised by dblanddbland ,May 10 '04
I've rented 3 times from them at LAX over the past 4 yrs and never had a problem. Prices were excellent, service acceptable, cars clean and as promised.
We will never go with this car rental company again. They advertise falsely. We went online and were quoted the lowest rates for the largest minivan. We booked. When we went to pick up our car, it turned out, that we had to pay almost double than what we were actually quoted.
During our trip, we drove by some toll booths. We had no idea that we were in the "Fastrack" lane. There was no sign indicating that we were in that lane. We tried to rectify that situation. We called Dollar repeatedly. They would not allow us to pay. They have actually charged us 7 times more than the ticket price. They overcharge. They are involved in unfair business practices. Avoid them like the plague. Try some other car rental company.
Avoid this company like poison. we've been lied to, overcharged, sold things we do not need.... When we tried to speak to a supervisor we got someone in the Philippines who could only suggest we go to Las Vegas - from Santa Fe New Mexico - with no guarrantee of satsfaction. It may be slightly cheaper - initially - but it really isn't worth the aggravation.
Dollar rent-a-car in San Diego (airport):
Worst service I have ever had in all the countries I have ever visited. Long wait for a shuttle bus from airport to car rental area. THEN a wait in line for TWO hours before being served. It was like a scene from a war-time evacuation camp. Shuttle bus driver said queue of this size was routine. The server at the counter said it was a one off, due to delayed flights, then later said it was due to "Gay Week" (rubbish) then said it was always like this unless you book Dollar Express, and said it was our fault for not booking Dollar Express. Car was grubby, bent number plates, multiple paint chips and scratches.
Ever again? No, absolutely never
faulty car provided in a bait-and-switch by gustoguy ,Sep 10 '09
They bait-and-swicth and don't stand behind the quality of their vehicles. We booked a good value car thru USAir. At the desk we were told we needed to upgrade to a 6 cylinder for "safety reasons" because we'd be in the mountains. The Dodge Charger we got was OK on the mild upgrades going to our destination but was dangerously unresponsive on the steeper route back to Phoenix. Cost was $250 more than the original estimate! When we infomed Dollar of the poor experience upon our return they did not follow-up. We later were told by customer service that since we alerted them "at the time of the return" (which beware is not considered part of the rental term period -try to find that in the fine print) we did not inform them in a "timley manner" of the defect and we were out of luck for any dispute resoultion. Next time, chose a real rental agency and alert immediately if you think there is ANY problem with the car.
Paid a lot more than expected by pzacle ,May 05 '06
Rented a minivan online for 15 day period. When I got to the location, was told that the minivan rented was too small for my family of four with luggage and they started the sales pitch for the extended grand caravan. This minivan was not an option on the website when I ordered, and it would have been far better to be able to price that car along side other like vehicles. What I expected would be a $700 rental became a $1000 rental. The vehicle had 10000 miles and drove well enough, but it was a striped down model with few comforts beyond cruise control. Since we rented in DC and drove to NY, an onboard Nav system would have been very useful, as would an onboard DVD player, but they weren't even offered.
The worst rental car experience ever. They engage in harassment. DO NOT RENT from Dollar. by simonedaniele ,Jan 05 '04
DO NOT RENT from Dollar. They will screw you over. We had a flat tire which when we called customer service they told us to replace immediately, then they refused to reimburse us. When we returned the car with the new tire they informed us that we should have just driven 200 miles on the interstate on the spare. They not only wouldn't reimburse us for the tire but the risk manager in El Paso, TX accused us of lying. They eventually closed out our account after two hours because our flight was leaving, still not having reimbursed us. A month later, we received another letter threatening us that we had to pay them even more because we weren't allowed to replace the tire and therefore had accrued administrative fees for doing so. I recently discovered that friends of mine have had similar experiences with Dollar. So if you're looking for a rental car, you'd be much better off using a different company.
Great service and price without the sales pressure. by bjclown ,Jul 23 '05
Great experience renting from Dollar in San Jose. No line, so immediate service. Least sales pressure for additional insurance and such that I've ever encountered. Not even a pitch for the gas deal. I was in and out in 5 minutes! Really.
Return was just as easy.
I'd rent from Dollar at San Jose again in a heartbeat.
Ps. I found the cheapest rate to be through their website rather than through any of the web travel sites.
Dollar Rent A Car WOnt Honor Reservation Price by browniebear ,May 03 '09
Ifar at the Las Vegas Mccarran Airport counter refused to honor my reservation price of $159.57 and charged $213.99 The date and times are correct on the reservation. We returned the car an hour early. Ifar the customer service rep accused me of changing the rental time on the reservation and we had to argue for 15 minutes to get it reduced. He also added a $40 charge for additional driver and said he couldn't remove it. They are fraudulently adding fees to our reservation. This was the worst rental car experience I've ever had. Angry customers waited in line for an hour because each transaction took 20 minutes. Other rental companies take 5 minutes. I will not use this company ever again
Don't Rent from this crooked car rental company by traveler4321 ,Aug 14 '08
The Newark location has the worst customer service of any organization. There is a woman manager there that is totally incompetent and extremely rude. My flight was delayed and when I showed up to pick up the car they told me that my rate that I got online was voided and that I still HAD to rent from them because I was going to be charged anyway. When I got my bill it was $680.00 and was supposed to be $323.00. I called and first talked to some guy that was speaking ebonics that I couldn't understand. I then talked to his manager...a woman that would not give her name, probably because she didn't want to be reported on how rude and disrespectful she was to a paying customer. I reported them to the Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. This policy amounts to a scam in my estimation. No wonder there are pending class action suits against this company.
