Pros: Hard-to-find books are here, prices are unbeatable Cons: The refund process is a hassle and takes too long
For months I had been trying to remember the name of a book I read in high school and had really enjoyed. When it finally occurred to me, I immediately went to Amazon.com, intending to order it. The problem? It's out of print and they had no used...

Pros: Quick and easy to use, painless to set up an account. Cons: Shipping for each and every item can get hefty.
As both a buyer and a seller at Half.com, I can tell you that in both areas, my experience has been nothing but positive. I've had to deal with customer service, and they too have been a model of helpfulness and quick response. In short, Half.com is...

Pros: cheap Cons: difficult at times
It’s been a long time since I’ve bought a book or a CD in a store. Actually, it’s been a while since I’ve bought one anywhere, but when I do think of buying something, the first place I look is Half.com. Here, average people (and a few businesses) sell ...

Pros: Simple way to list and sell your items (books, CD's,videos, DVD's and games and MORE! Cons: Very difficult to resolve 'problems' quickly due to S-L-O-W customer service via e-mail.
Half.com is a wonderful resource for those of us looking for a specific title or item at a fraction of the price. Maybe you want to sell some items that you just don't need, but are a little fearful to list on eBay or another auction site. Half.com has ...

Pros: CHEAP books! Cons: Would like to see a story synopsis along with each book listed
Ok, I am a book worm extraordinaire! I love to read, but our local library doesn't have the best selection and the cost of printing has sent book prices sky high in recent years. Selection and prices are two reasons I love Half.com! Here are details...

Pros: Large selection, good prices, reasonable shipping, usually good service. Cons: Can't aggregate orders to reduce shipping, some slow sellers.
Half.com is one of those internet business ideas that really makes sense. It's a lot like a standing flea market where sellers of used items list their inventories and buyers rummage through looking for bargains. It's a little different from a flea...

Pros: no insertion fee for items that do not sell Cons: slow website - total commissions higher than eBay for items more than $3
In this review, I discuss the pros and cons of listing (selling) relative low-priced items (less than $25) on Half.com vs listing them on eBay. Tips for buyers are implied.
My experience as a seller has been selling music CDs and books on...

Pros: Competitive prices; good selection of new and used products Cons: Inventory (and prices) constantly change; lack of "live" customer service; some sellers not responsive
JANUARY 2002 UPDATE
Since posting my initial lukewarm review of Half.com, I attempted to order again. I placed an order for an audio CD, which was listed as still in shrinkwrap and with a "first class mail upgrade."
This time, the sale...

Pros: Great place to sell easily; still can find good deals as a buyer. Cons: Lost its emphasis on "half."
For both buyers and sellers, www.half.com provides a better place for used book, CD, and video (and now many other things, too!) transactions than either the Internet auction sites or the traditional second hand book store. Even though Half.com has been...

Pros: Low prices for like new books; great community of trustworthy sellers. Cons: Shipping cost can double price. Media rate shipping can be slow when buying.
I have been using Half.com for nearly two years, long before eBay took it over. While eBay has made a few changes that I find a problem, the site still is the best place to sell/buy! And there are a few ways to maximize your selling and profits (or...

Pros: Find out of print books for cheap! Sell your old books and make money! Cons: Wish they'd send checks faster, addicting, search sometimes is not good.
I love this site. I love this site. I LOVE THIS SITE.
Did I mention I love this site?

UPDATE 9/02: Half.com is now fully integrated in eBay's system, and things have improved somewhat. For that reason, I've raised my rating from "Avoid it" to "Below Average," because there's still work to be done. Buyer/Seller Ratings are now...

Pros: Cheap, cool items for sale, reasonable shipping, easy payment, first come first serve Cons: Limited merchandise, sellers and buyers alike can get ripped off
I much prefer using half.com over eBay, simply because it's neater and less stressful. I hate the feeling of losing something I really, really wanted on eBay, all thanks to a sniper who came in at the last second and bid higher than I did.
