I've both bought and sold on Half.com for 1 1/2 years, and am mostly satisfied. Below I share some--maybe too much!--of my experiences and insights.
First of all, Half.com is a portal site (it's owned by Ebay) and consists of sellers--ranging...

Pros: Low prices for like new books; great community of trustworthy sellers. Cons: Shipping cost can double price. Media rate shipping can be slow when buying.
I have been using Half.com for nearly two years, long before eBay took it over. While eBay has made a few changes that I find a problem, the site still is the best place to sell/buy! And there are a few ways to maximize your selling and profits (or...

Pros: Hard-to-find books are here, prices are unbeatable Cons: The refund process is a hassle and takes too long
For months I had been trying to remember the name of a book I read in high school and had really enjoyed. When it finally occurred to me, I immediately went to Amazon.com, intending to order it. The problem? It's out of print and they had no used...

Half.com is an excellent source for inexpensive used CD's, movies, and books. They also offer other products such as electronics, toys, and video games, however the prices on these items seem to be comparable to other sources.
Half.com works by...

Pros: Great place to sell easily; still can find good deals as a buyer. Cons: Lost its emphasis on "half."
For both buyers and sellers, www.half.com provides a better place for used book, CD, and video (and now many other things, too!) transactions than either the Internet auction sites or the traditional second hand book store. Even though Half.com has been...

Pros: If selling: make extra money while de-cluttering. If buying: Get what you want cheap! Cons: If selling: frequent trips to the post office.
Ok.. I admit it, I am a little out of control when it comes to buying books. Since I was a small child, I have always loved to read, and over the last 20 years, I've collected an amazing amount of books. Of course, there are some I'll keep forever,...

Pros: Cheap used (sometimes new) books and other goods. Cons: Each purchase is a lottery ticket.
Half .com, now owned by eBay, is a different kind of auction site. Unlike eBay, prices on half.com are set in stone by the seller and there's essentially no communication (permitted) between the buyer and seller.
I was happy with half.com...

Pros: Competitive prices; good selection of new and used products Cons: Inventory (and prices) constantly change; lack of "live" customer service; some sellers not responsive
JANUARY 2002 UPDATE
Since posting my initial lukewarm review of Half.com, I attempted to order again. I placed an order for an audio CD, which was listed as still in shrinkwrap and with a "first class mail upgrade."
This time, the sale...

Pros: Cheap, cool items for sale, reasonable shipping, easy payment, first come first serve Cons: Limited merchandise, sellers and buyers alike can get ripped off
I much prefer using half.com over eBay, simply because it's neater and less stressful. I hate the feeling of losing something I really, really wanted on eBay, all thanks to a sniper who came in at the last second and bid higher than I did.

Pros: cheap prices, very user friendly, wish list feature Cons: Not all items are always half price
I've been using half.com for about a year now and I have to say that it's probably the most useful website I've come across. Both buying and selling is great at half.com and they have almost anything whether very old or very new.
Buying...

Pros: Very easy to use, Cheap Prices (buying), Items Sell Well Cons: No Buyer/Seller Communication, Restictions placed on Sales, Cheap Prices (Selling)
My first experience with half.com was as a buyer in December 2000. I wanted a couple Christmas CDs and I used the "$5 off $10" coupon. The orders arrived much faster than their exaggerated delivery times. My only irk was that half.com charged more...

Pros: Large selection, good prices, reasonable shipping, usually good service. Cons: Can't aggregate orders to reduce shipping, some slow sellers.
Half.com is one of those internet business ideas that really makes sense. It's a lot like a standing flea market where sellers of used items list their inventories and buyers rummage through looking for bargains. It's a little different from a flea...

Pros: GREAT prices Cons: Need a wider selection of stuff.
A sister site to ebay, this is a great place for the "little person". It is very easy to set up an account. The prices vary, yet stay fixed. And best of all, it is very easy to become a seller.
To set up an account, one has to enter the typical...

Pros: Easy to buy and sell books, cds, dvds and more Cons: Shipping costs are per item, and they add up quickly
Half.com is a great place to buy and sell newer used items. The company is owned by Ebay, but it is not an auction site. Instead, they list products that you can sell, such as books, movies, music, electronics and trading cards. The only items I have...

Pros: Extensive inventory, reasonable prices, well organized web site, direct deposit payments for sellers Cons: Search engine bug, poor buyer/seller communication
How Does It Work?
Half.com is one of the very best websites on the Internet for what it does--bringing buyers and sellers together. Since they are associated with EBay, the site is well organized and functions very similarly, but it...
