Poor Choice for Last Minute Gift

I agree with a posting below. If you need a last minute gift, don't choose Harry and David. While their fruit is lovely, they refuse to offer shipping options other than UPS.

For the past two holidays, the fruit was delivered to my door rather than the addressee, no call was made to either party, and this was an expedited shipping request requiring additional money from me.

Upon complaining to Harry and David about UPS's consistent failures, and the lack of shipping choices, their representative said, rather condescendingly, that "UPS worked well for us", .....so why worry about the customer?

The delivery promise is not really worthwhile if it keeps happening. It may be cheaper for Harry and David, but it has driven me away. I would return if listened and offered other choices, even if I bore the full shipping cost.

Avoid this Store! Worse than Terrible Service

Ordered a fruit basket for my mom - it arrived two days after her birthday, when I paid an upgraded charge to ship it one day before her birthday. The quality was not what I expected either - much worse. Then their customer service somehow tried to blame me for the problem instead of trying to make it right. Unbelievable!

Horrible shipping makes for bittersweet experience

I ordered some chocolate mints and belgian sweetheart chocolates from Harry & David for Easter (4/8) a month ahead of time. This was my first order with Harry & David. My order was sent to me via the US Postal service, and did not arrive on March 20th as promised. In fact it never arrived at all; however, in fairness, it's likely my mail was stolen that day since other expected items never arrived either.

So H&D's customer reps, bless their hearts, said they'd send a replacement package. However, the shipment kept getting delayed. I called customer service 3 times, pleading for them to send the package so that I could have it before Easter. I kept getting assurances that the package would be sent before Easter, but each time I checked the tracking service, it showed that the package wasn't shipped.

Finally I got a young kind woman who made sure my package was sent out via express UPS. I did receive the package on March 30 but alas, the belgian chocolates were melted. I called customer service to complain about this and was refunded money for the melted chocolates.

Customer Service is A Foreign Concept To Them

This is my fiasco with HarryandDavid.com, everyone who orders from then should know that they don't care about your order till the moment before it ships.

1. I placed an order on November 27th

2. I used their shipping options to pick a date close to xmas so the goods would still be good

3. I received 2 confirmations emails confirming my order.

4. A week before scheduled delivery they charged my credit card.

5. Two days before my order was due they called to say sorry we just looked at your order now and oopps we are sold out.

So even though they confirmed order and charged me I didn't get my holiday goods.

As a result of all this I for one will never shop at their stores, on their website, nor look at their 80 million catalogues.

Never again.
Worst customer service I've ever experienced.
They give you this "window" of time that your order should be delivered. Good luck with that. I ordered a product a week ago and it hasn't even shipped yet.
"Customer service" isn't helpful. Can't READ emails - you just get scripted replies.
All this business about "The Strongest Guarantee in the Business" - yeah - right.

If you decide to order - do so at your peril.
I'll never, ever be back.

I own a business and don't always have the time to shop. I used Harry and David's on line catalog and had a problem so I called their 800 number on a couple of occassions and found the people to be very helpful and knowledgeable and when asked their personal opinion on an item they gave me an honest answer which is hard to find in any retail operation these days. I will look to Harry and David for all my needs in the future

An awful,frustrating experience ! Ruined our Thanksgiving plans!

terrible...our Thanksgiving order was a disaster...the one ham-turkey to the east coast got placed for Dec 15th instead of Thanksgiving,mine still has not arrived and its the day after! And we live in the same state!!! This use to be a great place years ago....now I will NEVER order from them again!

Nothing like getting melted chocolates for Mother's Day!!

I ordered three total Mother's Day gifts from H&D this year (online order). H&D are zero for three so far. My mom's box of completely melted Royal Chocolates arrived yesterday, 5/6/04. They weren't left on the doorstep - they arrived melted right from the delivery truck.

The customer service representative was pleasant and apologetic on the phone and immediately arranged for another box of chocolates to be sent (to arrive no later than 5/17). No offer was made to expedite the replacement order, which would have been nice.

I'm not at all impressed with this company and will not be ordering from them again. I am very disappointed, not to mention embarrassed, that my mom was delivered such a crappy "gift." Thanks for nothing, H&D. I can only hope the pears and flowers I also ordered as gifts arrive in a presentable/acceptable condition.

BTW, from their website: "Nobody delivers like we do. Our gifts are trucked under controlled temperatures to a major city near their destination, where they're released to the US Postal Service for local delivery." What a joke.

Poor Customer Service & Delivery Policies

Harry & David makes promises to deliver within specific dates when you place your order. But when you call to verify, they disavow their promise and then try to charge you additional shipping charges to meet your delivery requirements.
Feels like a scam.

I made an order for one of your baskets on the 22nd of December and I paid $19.99 for expedited shipping and the basket did not arrive as I was advised it would. My parents are leaving out of town and now they will not enjoy the $114.41 basket I sent to them since they will be out of town. I called customer service dept and a Representative called Linda spoke to me as though my situation did not matter and even told me, "what can I do? Lets just hope it gets there on time?" What type of service does a large company like yours provide? I will make a comment about the order I made and the way I was mistreated on the internet so that everyone who orders from your company is aware.

My brother ordered me an item for Christmas. Another sibling got her package a week before Christmas--mine never came. On January 2 they finally told him it was "back-ordered." He canceled.

Harry and David sent my mom and grandmother the best tasting/looking tower of stuff you could imagine. My mom said the pears were the best she had ever had and that the display of boxes was so beautiful. Overall I am impressed with them and would definitely use them again.

And by the way, I was never flooded with junk mail.

I ordered a tower of treats to be sent to relatives in California and pears to be delivered to us for Christmas. Three weeks later when I checked, both items had been sent to California, but hadn't been received. The rep. I talked to credited my card for the box of pears sent to California and said she would send a box of pears on to us, complimentary. Two weeks later they had not yet arrived, so I called again. A different rep said the complementary box and not been sent and he was not able to offer that service. Instead he offered a 20% discount if I wanted to order again. Thanks, but no thanks. Looks like I'll be looking for a company that is more reliable and helpful to do business with in the future.

"Track Your Orders" broken for weeks

I have ordered from Harry & David many times over the years and have always been pleased with the products. However, this year has been nerve-racking due to the site's "Track Your Order" feature being broken - for weeks! I called the Customer Service folks and they didn't know (and didn't really seem to care). The online help refused to acknowledge that it was down. While they did eventually help, it seems that you'll have to keep calling or emailing to get status on the shipments. You'd think they could alert folks to the broken service.

I'm shopping online for the convenience, right?
